The reason why humans first wore clothes

Have you ever wondered why humans are the only ones who wear clothes when there are more than a million species of animals on earth?

A long, long time ago, the ancestors of humans were also hairy animals, however, a study found that the ancestors of humans shed their body hair more than 1 million years ago, and did not wear clothes until 170,000 years ago. This suggests that humans went through a period of "naked apes" without clothes or body hair for about a million years when they had no sense of dressing at all. So what caused early humans to start wearing clothes? The answer to this question is that one of the most widely circulated is to avoid the cold, and one is to cover up, so is this the case?

This requires the first to understand why earlier humans shed their body hair.

At present, mainstream scientists generally believe that early humans originated in East Africa, and then successively migrated to the rest of the world. This is because fossils from different periods of human evolution can be found in Africa, and scientists have also partially confirmed that humans originated from the same group by meaningless testing.

Most of Africa was still forested in ancient times, about more than 5 million years ago, when the ancestors of humans were arboreal apes whose main food was fruits and leaves. Due to changes in topography and climate, the original forests of Africa gradually evolved into grasslands, and the ancient apes had to come down to survive and gradually learned to walk biped ally and upright.

At that time, humans had to compete with many large beasts in the cruel African Savannah. They do not have sharp claws and teeth, but they also run most of the grassland animals, can not rely on explosive force and speed to kill prey, and can only compete with prey endurance, relying on teamwork, chasing, long-distance running mg, and running dead prey. This type of hunting requires humans to have an extremely well-developed heat dissipation system, so that they have the advantage of heat dissipation in long-distance running, and more body hair is not convenient for heat dissipation, so humans gradually faded in the evolution of the original covered the whole body of hair, better adapted to run for a long time, the advantage of running on two legs to chase prey to the fullest, better survival in the African grasslands.

Africa is located in the tropics, and in ancient times it was much hotter than it is now, and humans wore clothes before they even moved out of Africa on a large scale. So the argument of avoiding the cold to wear clothes certainly does not make sense, so in hot places, simply do not need to worry about keeping warm. But over time, some of the early humans migrated to various continents, some to higher latitudes and relatively cold temperatures, which is indeed the need to wear clothes to keep warm. But there is still one thing that does not make sense, why humans living in Africa at the same time also wore animal skin clothing? So the statement that the cold was the decisive factor that led humans to start wearing clothes l inaccurate.

So, what about the "shame theory"? Could it be that humans wear clothes because of shame? This claim is even less plausible!

The reason why humans have a sense of shame is actually from the difference between the individual and the group, when they look very different from most people, they will feel like an alien, and this time will produce a sense of shame.

The early primitive people are naked "frankly", you and I are the same, then naked the primitive people have not worn clothes, which is a Norwich l thing, how will have a sense of shame? On the contrary, wearing clothes will be ridiculed,?right. So, shame is not the direct reason why humans first wore clothes. Clothes shame function, in fact, is the human wear clothes, used to cover up after, gradually derived. It is because of wearing clothes, after the shame; not first shame, before wearing clothes, the order should not be reversed!

Back to the point, neither to protect against the cold nor to cover up, then what exactly prompted early humans to wear clothes?

That is to protect the body!

The ancient period of man did not have the concept of planting crops, there is no adequate food, but mainly constantly hunting to get food. When hunting, the naked body is often in the bushes or jungle, and after humans began to walk upright, the reproductive organs are exposed (unlike other animals walking on all fours, the body can block the reproductive organs, so that they are protected), especially the male, which is easy to be cut, stabbed or easy to be attacked by fierce animals when hunting, and the exposed organs also make it very inconvenient to run.

So, to protect their key parts from damage, primitive people will use animal skins and leaves made of animal skirts and tree skirts, around the waist, to protect the key and vulnerable parts. Over time, this habit of wearing clothes was formed.

Speaking of which, some people may ask, if you do not go out hunting or stay at home women, is not necessary to wear clothes, then why should also wear them?

You know that in primitive society, individual strength is very small, to survive in the cruel nature, human beings have to unite and collaborate, after all, more people have more power, by the collective power of hunting is certainly more efficient than fighting individually, the group is also less likely to be attacked by wild animals. So many individuals gradually gathered to form a group, and they lived together in groups, each doing their best, working together, together to defend the beast, together hunting for food. The fixed group life also gradually developed a relatively stable marriage system, and the pattern of fixed mates began to appear. In a group, men go out hunting while women stay at home to take care of their offspring. The women, to ensure their fidelity to their spouses and to avoid bringing sexual stimulation to other members of the opposite sex, would hide their intimate parts, which would better reassure their spouses.

So the decisive factor for humans to initially start wearing clothes is actually to protect the torso, especially to protect vital organs. And after they put on clothes, they found more benefits of wearing clothes, such as they can protect themselves from cold, sunlight, mosquito bites, etc., so they gradually got used to wearing clothes, which also allowed humans to get out of Africa and expand to colder regions.

And with the increase in ancient human intelligence, in the continuous development of human society, a variety of materials of clothing continue to appear, from the earliest appearance of leaves, animal skins, and then cloth silk, and modern artificial fibers. Not only the variety of materials, but styles are also being coming more and more abundant, the production is more and more sophisticated, the function of the clothes is not only to cover the body and warmth but more it also reflects the individual temperament aesthetic.
