Hector and Luiza are two crocodiles, one male, and one female, the majestic spectacled caimans that have been "in residence" at the Poznań Zoo in Poland since 1973, and have been the centerpiece of the zoo's largest amphibian house!

The two "couples" have been together for nearly 50 years, but have never produced a baby, and the zoo is worried about this, each time is watching Luiza (Luiza) lay a few eggs, he is also dedicated to hatching eggs, but in the end, but no end, never hatched a baby crocodile.

In 2019, the park finally hired a zoologist to conduct a "three-class consultation" on them, with the determination to not stop until the problem is found, but the result was embarrassing ......

The history of Hector and Louisa's love affair

The Poznan Zoo is a very old zoo, located in the Greater Poland voivodship in west-central Poland. This Hector and Luiza have been staying in the zoo's amphibian pool since 1973. They are spectacled caimans, originally from South America, and can reach up to 2.5 meters in length and weigh up to 100 kg or more.

Hector

They are one of the most powerful carnivores in South America, so they are usually seen as top predators. Spectacled caimans do not reach adulthood until they are in their teens and can live to be over 70 years old, so this is the time of year when Hector and Luiza are at their most agitated in the Poznan Zoo!

This is true because visitors can accidentally see them "flirting", and the crocodiles are very "passionate" and become crazy during the breeding season. The crocodiles usually hold a "courtship party" before the dry season, but in a suitable environment in the zoo, they are "sexually active" all year round.

So Hector and Luiza have a very intense mating session, with their tails wagging and Hector biting Luiza's neck, making loud noises, and seemingly mocking the single dog.

Louisa also laid eggs every time as expected. In the beginning, Louisa "personally" incubated the eggs, but after several failures, the staff could not resist pulling them out to try artificial incubation, but it was until the crocodile eggs stank and no small crocodile came out, and then the staff was also bored.

The two crocodiles are getting older day by day and will soon be past their "optimal reproductive" age, which the Poznan Zoo is anxious about. If they don't have a baby, they'll have to buy two more caimans to keep the amphibian house intact after "a hundred years", which is another big expense.

In January 2019, several German animal experts came to Poznan Zoo to exchange, the park caught the opportunity to turn over Hector and Louisa, lying on all fours in front of the eyes of the animal experts, and after careful examination found that Louisa did not seem to have any problems!

The experts simulated the situation when Hector and Louisa were mating and found that Hector's ding was unable to impregnate Louisa, so the mystery of the two crocodile couples who had been working for half a century without an heir was finally solved.

The reason for this is that Hector has been humiliated all over the world because the results of this test did not take long to come out, social media about Hector's small ding is already known, which can make Hector's old face put, but the good thing is that Hector also does not go on social media, breeding season is coming he still works for a while, but the crowd of onlookers from curious and hopeful eyes into a look of contempt Poor Hector, he has no chance to breed in this life!

No children for 50 years, because the ding is too small

Extended reading: South Korea gave Japan a spotted hyena, only to find out two years later that the gender is wrong

In 2014 when South Korea gifted a pair of spotted hyenas to Japan's Sapporo Madoka Zoo in Hokkaido, Madoka Zoo was told when they received them that they were a male and a female, and although spotted hyenas are not uncommon, they filled the zoo's void, after all, so the two spotted hyenas were served up well!

But the management of the Madoka Zoo found that it seems that the two-spotted hyenas do not get along at all, every time they meet either fighting or tearing, it seems that they were born to be enemies, very confused Madoka Zoo management used ultrasound to check their gender, the results found that both are male, which is to make a mess?

The male and female spotted hyenas are not good even for animal experts, female spotted hyenas also have a "false ding", and the male spotted hyena ding is very similar, but there are some small differences in the head, and they are difficult to distinguish before the adult, while the female spotted hyena adult body size than the male spotted hyena, in a group of spotted hyenas can be distinguished at a glance based on body size alone male and female.
