The Border Between

It might be one way

From spring, to summer, through fall. We live in our world, and you live in yours, but our two worlds are not separate, not by far. It may seem as so, from the veiled line which separates us, but only those who venture closer, know the truth; that during this time of year, it is not yet a barrier, but a border that you are free to cross whenever.

In these seasons, there are many that grow curious of what lurks beyond. Hundreds will choose to daringly venture across from either side, to see what is on the other. Just as your kind may be told not to venture too close to the veil, so is ours. We both know, however, that far too often, there is an unquenchable curiosity that thirsts to be answered. Thus, the forewarned go on ignoring their potentially foreshadowed fate.

I believe our kind’s methods of exploring our curiosities to be smarter. We may be curious, but we know better than to look beyond - for too long. We choose to simply graze our heads past the veil. Those of us who are bolder, will jump through to your side, but only for a few seconds. We need not be caught. As much as we would like to explore your world more, we have come to learn that our two worlds, breathe in different forms. Why are we so desperate to go somewhere toxic to us?

It is not just our kind either, your schools and your small fry want to see us too, but you have just as much difficulty in our world, as we do in yours.

I believe your kind to be more cunning. You have found methods of tethering yourselves to your world, when travelling into ours. You figured out ways to avoid our toxic water, so that you may stay uninvited, and go much farther than before. Who knows how you learned it. Maybe it was from all our kin, that went across the veil and didn’t come back, because they were taken by you.

The one time of year, when none of this matters, when curiosities can’t be answered and neither side need fear the threat posed to them by the other; is winter. When the cold comes, it does something strange to veil. The wavy, teal, crystal boarder, turns into an opaque, artic, solid, effectively sealing off our worlds. This barrier between us, is an act of nature, that should not be tested.

The great barrier was created for our sake and designed to protect our kind while we sleep. We sleep for the season, while your kind dances above. You seem not to understand, that the barrier should not be toyed with. We know our limits and sleep safely below, for the barrier’s duration.

As you created before, you once again create. You try to sabotage the great barrier, but it does not take kindly to those who test its strength. Why do you choose to venture somewhere unsafe?

Why do you test fate?

You have heard the warnings, yet you venture out to the frozen veil anyways, to see the nature of our little pond once again.

In winter we have faith in the barrier between us. In winter we usually sleep soundly. We try to ignore your antics from above. It’s not always enough. We sometimes awake from the noise, of your carving circles, to yell in the bubble forms our sounds take, for some silence for once. Regardless of our bubble yells, or how sound are sleeps may be, we trust in the barrier; knowing that it will always heal, even if you break through its icy shield.
