The Prime Minister of Slovakia hotly revealed that many NATO countries are considering sending troops to Ukraine
On February 26, during a speech at the EU leaders' meeting in Paris, France, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico mentioned that certain NATO and EU members are discussing the potential deployment of soldiers to Ukraine on a bilateral basis. However, Mr. Fico did not provide further details regarding this possibility. He suggested that some NATO and EU countries are contemplating sending troops to Ukraine for specific purposes, although he did not specify these objectives. Additionally, Mr. Fico confirmed that Slovakia, as a member of both the EU and NATO, does not intend to send troops to Ukraine due to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine that began in February 2022. NATO members have supplied significant amounts of weapons and ammunition to Ukraine and have been involved in training Ukrainian forces. However, NATO leaders, including US President Joe Biden, have emphasized the alliance's desire to avoid direct conflict with Russia to prevent a global war. As of February 14, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg stated that neither NATO nor its allies are actively engaged in the conflict, and there has been no official response from NATO regarding Mr. Fico's comments. When asked about the statement, Deputy General Sep Pet Fiala stated that the Czech Republic has no plans to deploy soldiers to Ukraine. He assured the public that there is no cause for concern regarding this matter. The Slovak general expressed concerns about the escalating risk of a large-scale conflict in Ukraine but refrained from disclosing further details publicly. Mr. Fico pointed out that the current Western strategy towards Ukraine has not been successful and expressed his willingness to engage in constructive discussions. French President Emmanuel Macron also mentioned the possibility of deploying troops to support Ukraine, but there is currently no consensus on this issue. He emphasized the importance of open and frank discussions among the leaders. This public discourse marks the first time the West has openly addressed the potential deployment of troops to Ukraine. President Macron's statements followed a meeting in Paris with approximately 20 European leaders, including a representative from the US. The meeting aimed to convey Europe's determination on the Ukraine issue to Russia. In contrast, the Dutch Prime Minister clarified that sending soldiers to Ukraine was not the primary topic of discussion at the meeting on February 26. Additionally, a Moon official stated that the US and NATO have no immediate plans to send troops to participate in the conflict. Russia has not responded to this information as of yet. In an earlier development on February 19, Russia's Deputy Chief of General Staff, General Seus Coy, accused NATO soldiers of fighting alongside the Ukrainian army against Russia in the conflict. He alleged that Ukraine conducted shelling attacks with Western support. Russia claimed that Western countries provided Ukraine with weapons, communication services, and intelligence. Mr. Rut Coy insinuated that NATO soldiers may be covertly participating in military operations in Ukraine. The conflict between Russia and Ukraine has persisted for three years with little change on the battlefield. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenski has urged the US and its allies to continue supporting Ukraine. President Macron announced plans to establish an alliance to supply mid-range missiles and bombs to aid Ukraine in penetrating Russia's defense lines. Several countries have expressed their support for this initiative by agreeing to procure ammunition from EU countries to assist Ukraine. Paris aims to bolster Europe's defense industry through this collaboration. Defense ministers have been tasked with developing plans within ten days. The Netherlands pledged 100 million Euros towards purchasing ammunition. On February 26, the governor of the Moscow region, Mr. Vladimir Sado, reported that the 15th mechanized infantry brigade of Russia had destroyed an American-made Abrams tank.
