Switching to an environmentally friendly way of life can improve your health and overall life, and is also a major incentive to change the world in which we live.

By discarding unnecessary chemicals, unhealthy food and bad habits / routines, all this can make you healthier, while at the same time you are taking care of the environment and the ecosystem.

The following few tips are easy to follow and at the same time mean a lot for our environment:

Save Energy

One of the simplest steps you can take to reduce your negative impact on the environment is to reduce the amount of electricity you use in your home.

In addition to making your home greener, saving energy has real, tangible benefits by saving you money.

Some energy-saving improvements you might consider include:

• Use low-energy light bulbs

• Turn off appliances when not in use: If electrical items such as computers and kitchen appliances are left plugged in, electricity is being used

• Insulate your home: If you insulate your home properly, you can make heating much more efficient.

Some local authorities offer insulation schemes, so it's worth taking the time to investigate whether you qualify for free home insulation

• Lower the thermostat: Lowering the temperature on your heating system's thermostat by a few degrees over the course of a year will reduce the amount of energy and money you spend on heating

• Wash clothes at low temperatures: Much of the energy used to wash clothes is spent on heating the water, so always opt for a lower temperature when possible

• Cover pots while cooking: Whenever you cook, always try to use lids for pots - this reduces the amount of energy that comes out of open pots, as well as the time needed to heat food and boil water.

Save Water

Saving water is another way to reduce your negative impact on the environment and, as with reducing energy consumption, it can save you a lot of money.

• Use short cycles to wash clothes: Modern washing machines have an "Eco wash" option

• Reduce the time spent in the shower

• Turn off the faucet when you brush your teeth: An often forgotten habit that wastes liters and liters of water

• Boil only as much water as you need: this is where tea and coffee drinkers can help! Be careful with those kettles.

Reduce Fuel Consumption

• Whenever possible, avoid driving. Choose to walk to work or ride a bike

• Use public transport for further routes and explore the possibilities of traveling by bus or train.

• Carpool - If you must travel by car, explore carpooling options with friends or join various ridesharing groups.

By sharing trips for work and leisure, you reduce the number of cars on the road, and you can make great contacts and new acquaintances along the way.

Choose Local, Seasonal Products

The food we consume has a profound effect on the global environment – as the world's population grows, the demand for food increases and the strain on ecologies and habitats increases too.

The issues surrounding food production, supply and consumption are extremely complex, but there are some considerations that could help reduce the impact of what you eat on the environment while offering a healthy lifestyle, including:

• If you eat meat, reduce the number of meals containing meat you eat each week.

• If you eat fish, choose sustainably sourced species and fishing methods.

• Avoid food with unnecessary packaging, as this only leads to additional, unnecessary garbage.

• Always look for sustainable, organic, locally grown food because that's how you help the economy.

Products that are purchased in season is more likely to be fresher, consumed closer to harvesting and higher in nutritional value, some anti-oxidants such as Vitamin C, folate and carotenes will rapidly decline when stored for periods of time.
