Kodinhi: The Kerala Twins Village | The Twins Village Mysteries

Can you picture being surrounded by identical human beings? Kodinhi, the town of twins in Kerala, should be on your bucket list if the concept excites you. Fo’shizzle, an unusual village in Kerala’s Malappuram district, will give you twice the chuckles, smiles, and, of course, twice the joy of finding a staggering number of human photocopies.

Unusual, we wager, since twins are like living miracles, and seeing the enormous number of them here is no less than a pleasure for all adventurers who enjoy chronicling unusual journeys in their travel diaries.

Without further ado, scroll down to learn the puzzling details of this strange Keralan community that is home to the greatest concentration of twins in the world.

In India, 9 twins are born for every 1000 births, compared to an average of 4 worldwide. Yet, out of 1000 births in this enigmatic village in Kerala, 45 twins are born.

The estimated 2000 households living in the village currently contain roughly 400 pairs of twins, which is quite astounding and thought-provoking in and of itself.

There have been numerous studies done by experts, along with saliva and hair samples collected by doctors from all over the world, but there hasn’t been a clear cause or scientific explanation for the staggering number of twins in this Keralan community.

Researchers, medical professionals, and scientists all have an interest in the mystical relationship between twins and hereditary influences on personality. Due to its status as one of the earliest communities in the world with a twin enigma, Kodinhi became well-known for this reason. Why not, given that the twins in this instance are monozygotic and identical in terms of behaviour and preferences.

When twin sisters in 2006 undertook a survey on the unusual number of twin births in Kodinhi, the community immediately gained notoriety. Following that, a lot of scientists and researchers started coming here.

In order to look into this peculiar phenomena, a group of researchers from famous universities including the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology, Kerala University, University of London, and University of Germany travelled to this enigmatic town of twins later in 2016.

To develop clear rationale, many genetic tests were carried out on DNA, saliva, and hair samples from diverse twins. The investigation is still ongoing, but no genetic connections or explanation for the high twinning rate in the Kodinhi have been found.
