According to Mississippi Emergency Management, the state's deadly tornado on Friday claimed the lives of at least 23 individuals.

Several people have been hurt, according to MEMA, and at least four people are still missing after the storm that devastated Rolling Fork, Silver City, and Amory.

MEMA stated in a statement that "unfortunately, these percentages are projected to alter."

There were at least 80 miles where the first tornado made landfall. The storm system continued to pose a threat along a 200-mile route from Rolling Fork in the Delta to Mississippi and on to areas near the Alabama-Mississippi state line.

Tornadoes ripped over Mississippi and Alabama overnight; 23 people were confirmed deceased.

There are still thousands without electricity, with Sharkey, Montgomery, Humphreys, and Carroll counties having the largest percentages.

"It's complete destruction,"

Along with her husband Thomas, Onward resident Victoria Garland stayed in Rolling Fork into the wee hours of this morning doing what she could to assist. Despite the darkness, she could make out a bleak scene.

The town is in terrible shape, Garland declared. "It's complete destruction.

"We could no longer see a lot. Your entire life's experience with the skyline is over. Our trusted companies are no longer around. We are undoubtedly shocked.

Garland claimed that many businesses in Rolling Fork were destroyed, including an animal sanctuary where she claimed something almost miraculous occurred.

Late on Friday, a devastating tornado and powerful thunderstorms moved across Mississippi and Alabama, causing more than 100 miles of devastation, according to local and federal authorities.

In Mississippi, at least 25 people have passed away. First responders in Alabama saved a man who ultimately died from his wounds, according to officials.

Sharkey and Humphreys counties were the focus of search and rescue efforts, according to the Emergency Management Agency of Mississippi. The organisation issued a number of tornado warnings across the state's counties.

Gov. Tate Reeves posted on Twitter that "many in the MS Delta need your prayer and God's protection tonight." "For those who are in need, we have activated medical support, sending extra ambulances and other emergency resources. There is ongoing search and rescue."

On Saturday, President Joe Biden expressed his prayers for those who lost loved ones in the disasters.

"Heartbreaking photographs have been reported from all around Mississippi. While we are still determining the full extent of the destruction, we are aware that many of our fellow Americans are mourning the loss of their homes and businesses in addition to their loved ones "added Biden.

He continued, "We will do all in our power to assist people affected by these terrible storms as well as the first responders and emergency workers assisting their fellow Americans. We'll stay put for however long it takes. Together, we'll provide the assistance you need to heal."

In every county impacted by the heavy storms, Reeves declared a state of emergency.

Reeves said in a statement, "I'm horrified by the wreckage and loss of life that these storms have inflicted. "The state of Mississippi will keep exerting all of its efforts to mobilise all of its resources to assist our fellow Mississippians who are in need. The government will assist in their reconstruction. We're here to stay and are committed to this for the long run. Please join me in extending prayers to the friends and family of those who have lost loved ones at this difficult time."

The state emergency agency posted on Twitter that there have been numerous reported injuries. According to EMA, four people who were reported missing overnight have now located.
