Listening to the Earth - creating our reality

Mining Magic and experience

Our first wedding ring made with our locally mined Amethyst, custom cut and paired with a Mother's passed down Diamond.

Eight years ago we began a journey of following intuition. As artists, a creative outlet has always been present in our lives, but after a big move closer to our home town with no solid jobs lined up, we turned to nature to help alleviate the stress and anxiety that came with feeling "irresponsible". We are a couple, we're best friends, and we're a team, we always have been. Each time the stress creeped up on us, we found extreme relief hiking deep into the forest behind our house. The scenery, the fresh air, everything about the forest was really what we needed at the time.

We had been making little earrings and pouches for a shop in our old city, which would help pay a bill or two each month and was becoming something we enjoyed more and more. One day we heard of a local hill that had Quartz crystals. For some reason this lit a fire within us! It took three afternoons of solidly just trying to find the right path. It was a quick and easy hike, and we actually found little gems! Earth's sculptures! It became an obsession, and oddly enough, we both found ourselves tapping into some sort of primal knowledge because we found it easy and natural. Like the earth was speaking to us.

Eventually it led us to more vast and expansive places , much tougher hikes, with views that make you fall in love. It's rough learning to take on the outdoors, what tools we need to bring, how much water we'd need, what food will sustain you all day hiking over peaks and washouts in the hopes of finding a vein of Quartz streaming to the surface. Looking out over the hills, we have a sense of where to go, imagining erosion like a time lapse over millions of years. At this point, it is second nature out there, especially once we step into the present moment. We have had many experiences where we followed a dream or a random feeling to a beautiful pocket of gems. It's magic.

Though, we've moved on from creating pouches and feather earrings, our hobby quickly evolved into a business. The gems drove more purpose and direction into our work, and transformed into making jewelry. Often using the raw crystal in its natural shape and just recently started using cut stones for finer pieces like wedding rings. Often, the design just falls into place, the gem almost tells us what to do with it... Work it into a pendant or a ring, pair it with this one or that one. Pouring the molten metal almost feels like recreating the raw earth millions of years ago when the crystals formed. There's something mesmerizing and fulfilling about the whole thing.

What makes them special, is the energy from the journey they carry onto the wearer. Style is so personal, we believe the energy of our adventure and hard work behind finding each gem is what speaks to people. We try to drive meaning with the stone and the theme of the piece with a story from the road, or a tie to the past, how different cultures used and appreciated them. A metaphysical and scientific aspect that is beautifully tied together. The gem trade, as we've learned, is not what you'd think. Many countries exploit people where there are minerals, and over saturated, and in turn there are very cheap crystals on the market. Generally, the metaphysical community is about the "vibes", so we try to emphasize the importance of knowing where your things come from. Our pieces are dug out of the earth with our hands and small tools, carried off the mountain on our backs with just our scratched up legs for miles. They are found out of love of the whole process, from the magical reset in nature to the finished piece in a shop. Living the life of an artist is humble and hard to navigate. Not the creation part, but finding comfort and stability. But what we've found over the years of somehow sustaining ourselves enough, and having a few awesome breakthroughs to keep going, that happiness is found in this freedom we've created for ourselves.
