According to the laws of physics, water should get somewhere anyway. Water flows can be tracked even if they pass underground. James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) is a large, infrared-optimized space telescope that is set to launch in 2021. It is a collaboration between NASA, the European Space Agency (ESA), and the Canadian Space Agency (CSA). The JWST is the successor to the Hubble Space Telescope, and it is designed to observe some of the most distant objects in the universe, as well as study the formation of stars and planetary systems. The JWST features a primary mirror that is 6.5 meters (21.3 feet) in diameter, making it about 100 times more powerful than the Hubble Space Telescope. The mirror is made up of 18 hexagonal segments that are coated with a thin layer of gold to increase their reflectivity in the infrared. The mirror is also actively controlled to maintain its shape, which is critical for producing sharp images. The JWST is equipped with four main instruments, each designed to study different aspects of the universe: The Near Infrared Camera (NIRCam) is designed to study the early universe, including the formation of the first galaxies and stars. The Near Infrared Spectrograph (NIRSpec) is used to study the properties of galaxies, stars, and planetary systems. The Mid-Infrared Instrument (MIRI) is used to study the formation of stars and planetary systems, as well as the properties of distant galaxies. The Fine Guidance Sensor/Near Infrared Imager and Slitless Spectrograph (FGS/NIRISS) is used for observations of stars and planets within our own solar system.
