If we do not cut global carbon emissions in half or more with the peak and stopping date at 2025 we will face extinction level events(Garza,2022). Catastrophic changes within the earth's system will be inevitable(EPA,2022). Gas powered vehicles produce 29% of these emissions, with industry leading a close second at 26%(EPA,2022). Hence I am presenting the argument that the transition to electric cars should be prioritized at all levels. It is imperative to not only pave the way for transition to electric cars, providing incentives, but also to incorporate the facts into action that the change is necessary as it affects our ultimate survival.

We have had the capacity and knowledge to produce electric cars since the late 1800s. As a matter of fact, Henry Ford was faced with the ultimate decision of mass production of gas powered or electric, as he invented a fully electric car in 1896. He and Edison doubted the practicality of electricity, however and chose liquid fuels.Edison later changed his mind.(Shrieber,2021.)

Environmentalists have been sounding the alarms for decades and working towards change since the 60s. Technological advances and solutions have been being developed since then and advancements towards ultimate salvation have been in effect and some are now standing idle and have been since the 90s(Tollefson,2008.).

According to Garza and Time magazine what we need now is political will because what we have been encountering in implementing the necessary changes are corporate procrastination and or unwillingness and a lack of necessary political backing(Garza,2022).

The problem is magnificent because the entire scope of humanity and our ultimate survival is hinging upon our capacity for near immediate transition. Human survival will face extinction-level events if the change does not occur. The earth will undergo catastrophic changes in structure that humanity may not survive if the advances, changes(electric cars, solar and wind energy, remote work, organic living) provided, advocated, and worked towards by environmentalists, climate advocates, and tech experts indicate do not occur(Garza,2020),(EPA),(Mcgrath,2022).

If carbon emissions are not reduced by 40-70% with a peak and stopping point in 2025 then by the year 2050 life as we know it will rapidly change and no longer exist. In this year the damage to the ozone and the rise in climate temperature will have suffered irreversible damage. The planet of Earth will no longer have the capacity to maintain human life (Garza,2022),(EPA)(Mcgrath,2022), etc.

The aforementioned are facts, First we will die if carbon emissions are not reduced by 40-70% within the next decade or so. This will have an end date of 2025 for the peak before rapid decline of carbon emissions(Garza,2022).If this date of stopping and declining in carbon emissions is not met entirely the scope of human survival is met with a near zero possibilty. Second, gas powered cars/transportation account for 29% carbon emissions. Hence it is the most efficient cut and deduction to surmise, the next highest being industry which is 26%(EPA,2022).

It is further my argument that with these truths in play coupled with human will a tendency to shy from harsh realities and drag feet that the changes may have to be sweeping and hold high incentives, tax cuts, possibly with the higher income brackets holding more and sooner and definitively necessary reforms as well as responsibility for providing incentives and possibilities for the less economically endowed , including but not limited to governmental budgets and corporate incentives for all)} I would further indicate and supplement this argument with the facts that not only are the changes necessary but actually economically and environmentally desirable.

Electric cars have made incredible advancements since the nineties. The fastest car can reach speeds of up to 240 miles per hour and can reach 0-60 in 1.9 seconds. Further, the cars can now hold charges (such as the Tesla) for up to 300 miles (Chui,2022). The designs are sleeker, and the interiors are sinfully luxurious. And a final advantage to note, the batteries are fully rechargeable and recyclable (Bandyopadhyay,2021). I have seen that blueprints are available for the recycling of batteries that provides a road map for zero waste (Lui,Beijing).

If the incentive of saving the earth isn’t enough perhaps people should be made aware of the fact that it is possible to drive an electric car after initial purchase of a car and station for approximately 30 to 60 dollars a month(Tetrina,2021). This would also potentially create more individual freedom, particularly if the individual was using solar energy, which would further offset the cost. Eliminating carbon footprint and debt isn't just eco-friendly it is definitively a practical necessity, a no-brainer.

To address further concerns. It is argued that electricity isn’t clean energy. I cannot refute this. But it is my refutation that we are in the middle of a transitory period. And that part of this transition includes carbon based energy power cells to be replaced with solar. Hence, it is a logical step in the process to transition from gas to electric. As carbon electricity will soon be replaced by the cleaner utilization of sun and wind energy.

Another logical argument is; why can’t we use natural gas as we have a ton of it?

The answer is relatively simple. Because the conversion of gas to energy requires heat, which produces carbon emissions. This adds to the heat and pollution in the earth's atmosphere. And while gas is a naturally produced product, it comes from the earth; it is not meant to be breathed,it isn’t for human consumption.. Nor is it a biodegradable product without adding heat, which again is releasing carbon into the atmosphere.

All of this being said is a reiteration of the fact that saving the world, the earth is as simple as investing the time, money, and discomfort of change required by each individual human. Each person is responsible; as the sum is a reflection of each individual as factoring. All of the things that earth conscious people do on a daily and minutely basis are not going to be enough when the masses as a whole and as individuals continue excusing and shifting personal responsibility. It is time for the human race to shake apathy and make the required changes. Demand change and incentives at political levels, and demand cheaper prices and affordability at corporate levels. Refuse to use plastic. Refuse to shop at retailers that don’t have charging stations in their lots. Demand accountability from multi conglomerates. How much money has each corporate, government and otherwise entity invested in solar power, wind power, and making electric transit available for all?

Hence, humankind as a whole and as individuals must stand and take deliberate actions to save the world.

With all of the aforementioned facts and statistics considered it is an accurate summation to say that in order to actually survive as a species we will have to orchestrate sweeping and immediate change. One of these changes is the gas powered vehicle which lists in culpability as a large one third of the carbon footprint. These changes are devastatingly necessary. The earth and its ecosystem have essentially blueprinted life.

Humanity evolved from the earth. The earth substains humanity. One should and must be able to live in liaison with the other. These concepts are foundational to survival. Humanity as a whole is responsible not only for their own lives but the lives of future generations and humankind's own and singular responsibility as humankind, which is posterity.

With all of these things considered it is my summation that in order to actually survive as a species we will have to orchestrate sweeping and immediate change. Be the change, demand the change, buy the change. We must unite to eliminate threats to human survival. In the small things, we orchestrate the vast changes necessary. Bamboo, not plastic. Electric, not gas. Wind and solar not carbon-fueled electricity plants.Local farmers and farmer's markets. And every other advice and adage ever given. As a race, as a species, the time to challenge hostilities and greed has passed. It is now time to act.
