Arcani

The Perspective of Minerals

Once upon a time there was no time.

Then suddenly there were all sorts of things like H20, gas and minerals. While each element is what holds the balance of life, I am in favor of the rocks.

This sedimentary rock in particular is what swayed me.

I watched as the organic matter was birthed from subsequent cementation, until agents of denudation transported it to a forest.

This little one had a lot of visitors; ants and other bugs would burrow underneath it for shelter. Once something inspirational was felt when someone stepped on the rock and for a moment the mineral held a connection point through the sole of a bear's foot. Over time visitors like this would excite the rock and give it purpose. Each time the rock encountered a new being, energy would be absorbed into it. Time passes and before you know it this solid mass is full of conscious energy; over time the rock begins to recognize what it felt from each creature that touched it. A conscious rock full of life’s energy gathered over billions of years. I like to refer to this specific mass as Arcani (arc – ani).

Arcani spent millions of millennia in that forest. They felt as every tree surrounding it drank the sun’s nutrients and grew high to be closer to the source that gives it strength. Stories told in the ground were told many different ways, but they all became more or less predictable. If they felt the roaring vibe from the nimbus clouds above, they knew they’d be covered in H20; thunder rang like a thrilling alarm telling the rock it’s about to fuse with the rain. Water makes the sedimentary rock feel alive. If a rock could get goosebumps, they’d be there.

What a fascinating little speck of matter Arcani was to watch evolve; became with the firsts of their kind to evolve into conscious energy.

One day Arcani had an idea. It’s felt so many wonderful things in that space they’ve occupied for most of its existence. They've experienced just about everything they have over and over and over again. It was time now, it felt like to Arcani, to move.

They knew it could happen. They believed in it with all its energy it gathered from every organism that it came upon. The idea of movement, the feeling of H20, and excitement for new sensations were all that it desired. That focus coursed through that little rock body for 7 years, until the agents were roused by the high frequency of its insistent plea for change. Plates from underneath the earth's crust began to shift the mountain on which the forest grew from. These shifts felt grander than anything the earth ever achieved before. Giant chunks of land, mountain, and forest crumbled into the freshly exposed ocean underneath. Within an hour a third of that mountain became part of the sea. So much fell into the ocean that day; many trees and an immense amount of rock and earth tumbled away.

But not Arcani. They sat stuck while they felt the ground they’re connected with flip and turn upside down. This is it. the moment that Arcani had been begging for and their clump of land stopped atop a stack of freshly fallen earth. The water lay just about 5ft below them, so close to being submersed in the precious element it had been born from. Arcani had been dry for long enough. Waited for and savored the raindrops long enough. Maybe that’s just me projecting my own impatience, which is why I find rocks so inspiring, because the reality of Arcani’s aura was truly accepting.

753,090 years since Arcani’s trip from the forest to the beach where it lay.

The wind picks up. A crunching pattern emerges from the distance. The vibration is subtle and similar to an animal's pace, but the connections to the earth somehow feel more complex. Another conscious being. A human. Excitement and fear tingled inside every atom as the Homo Sapien drew closer. Like a magnet being pulled I watched as they climbed that earth mound and sat right behind Arcani.

The human had H20 pouring from its eyes,

“So many lives, so much death and devastation...and for what!? AH!”, they yelled, grappling the chain around their neck. Squinting from the amount of water in their eyes, chin quivering from the pain behind their words as they spoke.

“Anything good is gone. They just couldn’t help but see that through. That’s probably why I’m still here...so what’s the point.”

Wiping their eyes, they get their first glance at Arcani. A sharp heavy tan rock. They pick up it with surprise to the resistance from the soil underneath. Feeling frustration, confusion, and sorrow, the human faces the sharp side of Arcani to the soft side of their wrist.

Arcani had never connected with energy akin to their own before. The pain and sorrow from the human surged though the rock and the rock understood; and like a new instinct it expanded its accepting aura as wide as it could muster until it entered the heart.

Suddenly that arm couldn’t hold Arcani in that position anymore. The desire that originally drove the being there no longer felt paramount. With a release of all the oxygen from its body, the mortal breaks the heart locket chain from its neck. Carefully and expeditiously, it wraps it around Arcani. They cup the sharp rock, tied like a present with both hands, and kiss the locket lovingly. Swiftly standing they swing Arcani back with strength coming up all the way up from its toes yelling out an, “ahhhhhhhhh” and the locket wrapped rock launches!

Arcani is flying. No earth to connect to, only air on all sides. This is an extremely rare experience for any formation. Not many know how it feels to be emersed in that element.

A plop sends Arcani down, sinking rapidly to the bottom of the cove. Bubbles emerge as oxygen escapes and H20 fuses within Arcani. Finally connected to the ocean where it still lays entirely at ease with a complete set of experiences most rocks can’t even dream of. Micro-organisms occasionally find refuge in the heart locket, giving Arcani a greater sense of purpose than it felt on land, because energy flows easier underwater.

How the locket got there is even more peculiar, but that’s a story for another time.
