A sleep-deprived traveler grew angry when the passenger next to her interrupted her attempt to rest four times during the three-hour journey.

Being seated in the middle seat on an airplane is a situation where there are no winners. You miss out on the scenic window view, and you don't have easy access to the restroom either.

However, one traveler found himself perplexed when the person in the aisle seat told him to 'hold it' after using the restroom three times in less than three hours.

According to a Reddit thread, this budget-conscious traveler was heading home for the holiday season when this incident occurred. He explained that he chose the middle seat because he didn't particularly care about having a window seat and was trying to stick to a tight budget.

The individual, who described themselves as a 'fairly large person and an athlete,' was concerned about staying hydrated during the flight. Consequently, they brought two one-liter water bottles with them.

Aircraft cabins typically have lower humidity levels, usually maintained at 10-20%, according to the Centre for Family Medicine. This reduced humidity can lead to quicker dehydration when flying at 36,000 feet.

The passenger in the aisle seat was visibly asleep and was awakened not once, not twice, but three times by the traveler needing to use the restroom within a three-hour timeframe.

The aisle-seat passenger expressed frustration through sighs, groans, eye rolls, and more whenever the frequent restroom user got up. On the third restroom trip, she asked if he could try to hold it for the rest of the flight so she could sleep.

The traveler, who was conscious of staying hydrated, didn't take her request too seriously and continued drinking water. When the unaware flyer disturbed the sleeping woman for the fourth time, an argument ensued, and the frequent restroom user was labeled as 'rude.'

He responded, "It's either that, become dehydrated, or wet myself, and going to the bathroom seemed like the best option." She retorted, suggesting he might have a bladder issue to be needing to go so frequently.

Annoyed by her questions, he told her to mind her own business. Trying to defuse the situation, the restroom user offered to switch seats.

A flight attendant eventually sided with the self-described 'bigger person' and 'athlete', after attempting to find a resolution for their quarrel. File image: A toilet in a commercial aeroplane

Not everyone was on the 'bursting' flyer's side with many branding him inconsiderate, that it was unnecessary to drink so much water with one person going as far as to describe him as having 'a lack of empathy'. Pictured: United Airlines Boeing 767-400

The disagreement escalated when a flight attendant intervened and ultimately sided with the person in the middle seat. However, not everyone agreed with the flight attendant and the middle-seat traveler, as some family members and Reddit users criticized the lack of consideration for the fellow passenger.

One commenter argued, "Three hours on a plane won't dehydrate you enough to harm you. If you plan on doing this on your next flight, pay for the aisle seat or be prepared to annoy your seatmate."

Another person shared, "I have a small bladder, so I do tend to use the restroom frequently on flights. That's why I book an aisle seat when I fly because I'm not selfish."

Yet another commenter said, "Purposefully taking the middle seat and then bothering the aisle seat passenger each time to pee four times is a selfish move."

One person noted, "Your lack of empathy for her trying to sleep is astounding."

However, not everyone criticized the Reddit poster, as someone claiming to be a flight attendant recommended that travelers drink a cup (or half a bottle) of water every hour during the flight.
