Deep water refers to any body of water that is at least 50 feet below the surface. This includes oceans, lakes, rivers, ponds, etc. In order to survive in this environment, fish have adapted their bodies to function under these conditions. They are able to breathe air through gills instead of lungs, they do not need to eat food, and they can even go without sleep!

Fish are cold-blooded vertebrates that have gills and swim using fins. They are usually freshwater dwelling but can live in salt water too.

Fish are often classified into two groups: bony fishes and cartilaginous fishes. Bony fishes include sharks, rays, skates, chimaeras, sturgeons, and paddlefish. Cartilaginous fishes include sharks, rays and dolphins.

There are over 30,000 species of fish.

The earliest known fish were jawless lobe-finned fishes. These included the first ray-finned fishes (Actinopterygii), which appeared around 360 million years ago. Around 300 million years later, the first true fish (Osteichthyes) evolved. This group includes the modern day bony fishes and cartilage fishes.

Most fish have a single dorsal fin and three pairs of pectoral fins. Some fish have additional fins, including anal, caudal, and pelvic fins.

1. Giant Squid

The giant squid (Architeuthis dux) is a large species of cephalopod that lives in deep waters around the world. They are known to live over 1000 feet below sea level. This makes them some of the largest creatures in the ocean. Their size can reach 20-30 ft. long, making them larger than any other animal in the ocean. These animals have been known to live for over 200 years.

2. Sea Dragon

The sea dragon (Draco caeruleus) is a reptile that lives in the oceans of the world. They are a type of lizard that lives near the bottom of the ocean. They are often seen swimming at depths of over 5000 ft. They usually stay close to the ocean floor, but they have been known to climb back onto land. There has not been much research into this species of dragons because they live in such deep water.

3. Moray Eel

A moray eel (Gymnothorax funebris) is a fish that belongs to the family Gymnotidae. Morays are known to live in the seas of South America and Africa. They are a bony fish that has no dorsal fin. Morays eat crabs, mollusks, worms, shrimp, octopus, and small fishes. They have also been known to eat each other.

4. Octopus

The octopus is a cephalopod mollusk that has eight arms and two tentacles. They are known to live in water from depths of about 100 feet (30 meters) to over 6,000 feet (1,829 meters). Octopuses have been known to survive at depths of 10,000 feet (3,048 meters), but they usually inhabit waters between 1,500 and 4,000 feet (457-1,219 meters).

5. Cuttlefish

Cuttlefish are marine animals that belong to the phylum Mollusca, class Cephalopoda, order Sepiida, family Sepiolidae. Their name comes from their unique skin structure, which looks like cuttlebone. Cuttlefish can change color, depending on what they want to camouflage themselves as. When frightened, they will darken their skin to hide.

6. Squid

Squid are aquatic animals belonging to the class Oegopsida, order Decapoda, subclass Penaeoidea. There are five different types of squid, including the giant squid, the colossal squid, the shortfin squid, the longfin squid, and the bobtail squid. All squids are carnivorous, feeding mainly on fish and other invertebrates.

7. Sea Anemone

Sea anemones are some of the few animals that can live both above and below the surface of the ocean. Many sea anemones secrete a sticky substance that helps them cling to surfaces. As a result, they have been able to thrive in some of the harshest environments on earth.
