It usually takes me a day or so to read an average-length novel. This one took eight months.
Sometimes it feels like reading in a different language but the layers of meaning behind endlessly visceral scenes seep through like early morning sunlight.
Anyway, here’s to Mr Joyce: incomparable, inscrutable, immense.

I have two copies because of all the edits. You need to accept that he will take you to places where he will take his time with the narrative.
That sounds intense but also a bit hard to read!
This is really well done. I wasn't subscribed to you... was wondering where you were and turns out the issue was mine! 😂
An Odessey of your own, simply in the reading.
Whoaaa. It took 8 months? I don't think I'll be reading this, lol!
Phew, I’m glad I’m not alone and native speakers feel about it just like me. Years ago, I read it in Russian for my foreign literature class. It was a huge effort but I loved it. It was a great translation, too, by my teacher, who wrote Joyce’s definitive biography in Russian awarded many international prizes. In early 2000s I attempted to read Ulysses in English but was able to finish only about 80 first pages like in 2 months. This review prompts me to make another attempt.
I’m not at all familiar with it but I’m now intrigued ☺️
