Kanye West's Controversial San Antonio Concert Just Got A Major Update

Ye’s world is different. While he has shown his entire backside on multiple occasions, it seems like you can’t keep the man from exploring new avenues to gain revenue. He has a rabid fan base. He has the residual deposits and probably quiet money no one but Ye knows about. His ability to still create despite controversy is remarkable in and of itself.

In an upcoming show in San Antonio this summer, Ye has already sold 50,000 tickets. But the mayor wants him off the stage and out of her city. Gina Ortiz, though, must get agreement from the city council first. This spells out the road to redemption Ye has placed himself on in the last few months. The amount of financial success coupled with his adoring supporters is enough to evaluate his notoriety. His most heinous rants about positive aspects of Adolf Hitler and his shots at Foundational Black Americans (FBA) still cut deep. But beyond all that, he is enjoying the scene as a rapper of reestablishment.

He has reconditioned himself into a personality that is highly volatile but could be effective if handled properly. Essentially, he’s nitroglycerin. Ye has a wife and children from his previous marriage to Kim Kardashian. But that’s nowhere near the headline. Seats have been filled to show that the “Water” rapper is still in high demand. Is it because of Internet trolls who have nothing better to do than to be ironic and cynical? Or are people willing to be subjected to the contradictions of lurid tales of sex, drugs, and hip hop and the theory of God? It seems as if the way for anyone to fully understand this moment Ye is having is to look at his past efforts and public outbursts.

In this notion, Ye has succeeded at becoming a lightning rod for attention, ill or laudable. His impression is felt no matter what state of mind he may be in at the time. It’s like so many stars who either act up or wild out based on whatever mental illness they might have and then show themselves to be worthy because of their talent.

If there is anything to be said about bipolar disorder, it is that it can seep into your consciousness and you might not even realize your manic or depressive. For Ye, it seems like he’s earnest when he apologizes to Jews and blacks for the words and deeds he committed. It seems as though his mental disorder is a challenge for him to overtake. While it is unclear whether he is medicated with pharmaceutical drugs, he seems to be performing at a high level as he sells out arenas.

But that’s all a part of the self-proclaimed “genius” status that Ye operates on now. He’s been saying this for the past twenty-five years. It’s a testament to his will and ambition. While it may be dubious and off-putting to call oneself a genius, a grading scale of his previous efforts, he comes close if not nails it.

This San Antonio show should spark controversy even beyond what the mayor has in store for Ye. She wants to see him on a plane flying outside of her Texas town. With the NBA Finals loss to the Knicks, this could be another “L”(esson) for the famed city. Ortiz doesn’t want this to happen. But Ye is poised to take the flames up a little higher and fan them until the issue is burnt to a crisp.

It’s not like the man is striking out at all. He’s hitting homers outside the park. Like August Wilson’s Fences, he’s aiming outside of the field while also keeping in his family and also keeping out negative energy. How does he do this? He maintains a high-profile, continues to be a factor and relevant, and all-around weirdo who has transformed at least seven times. First it was the pink Polo shirt wearing Ye; then it was the Louis Vuitton Don; then it was the matchup against 50 which precipitated even more singing in hip hop on the side of rappers; next came the Ye with the redemptive phase after the Taylor Swift blowup; Then Yeezus and the clothing line; He remembered his mother; now he’s focused on his ability to move major crowds around the US and the world.
