Football is the most important sport in Brazil. They are a successful football nation that has won numerous awards, including 5 FIFA World Cups. The most beloved sport in Brazil is football. The National Team is very popular, not only in Brazil but also in many parts of the world where football is appreciated and there is also a famous National League, which boasts a national competition as well as several regional competitions. The Brazilian national team has won the FIFA World Cup five times (record) in 1958, 1962, 1970, 1994 and 2002 and is the only team that has never been absent from the World Cup. Pele, one of the most appreciated players in the world, led Brazil in three of these championships and is the greatest goal scorer of all time in this sport. After the third victory, Brazil kept the World Cup trophy permanently. Brazil competed in the 2006 World Cup as one of the favorites, however it came out only in 5th place. Some of the contemporary talents in the national team, prominent in the world of football, include Romario, Rivaldo and Ronaldo. Some of these players can be considered superstars, gaining international celebrity status and signing sports contracts, as well as advertisements and support contracts (endorsements) worth millions of dollars. The current holder of the title of "best footballer in the world", according to FIFA, is Ronaldinho, who won the FIFA World Player of the Year award in 2004 and 2005.

Football has a great influence on Brazilian culture. It is often the favorite concern of young people who can be found playing street football. World Championships are a social phenomenon and it is not uncommon for people to go to work to see how the national team plays, and in some cases a TV will be arranged at work so that employees can watch the event together. It should be noted that the General Election usually takes place in the same year as the World Cup and is often criticized for taking advantage of the nationalist agitation created by football and using it in politics. Also, former football players are often elected to legislative positions.

Brazil's national football team is the country's representative in official competitions. Its organization is handled by the Brazilian Football Confederation, a member of CONMEBOL. The Brazilian national football team is the most successful team in the history of the World Championships, with a record of 5 titles won. The most recent international trophy was won by the Brazilian team following the 2002 World Cup. At the same time, Brazil is the only team that has participated in all the final tournaments of the World Championship.

Brazil hoped for its first World Cup success in hosting the 1950 World Cup, but was defeated by Uruguay in the decisive match at the Maracanão Stadium (Rio de Janeiro) in front of 200,000 spectators. This event has gone down in history as Maracanazo.

In 1958, Brazil won its first world title, a success it would repeat four years later in Chile.

The year 1970 brought the third world title for the Brazilian national team, which presented in Mexico one of the best teams in history: Pelé (considered by some to be the best player in history), Carlos Alberto, Rivelino, Tostão and Jairzinho. Being in the third world title, the Brazilians received the right to keep the Jules Rimet Cup

It took 24 years for the team to win its fourth world trophy. In 1994, Brazil defeated Italy in a tiebreaker, in the first final decided in this way. In France, four years later, the Brazilian team finished in second place, after losing the final to the local team. Brazil became the "five-time world champion" after winning the final of the Korea-Japan 2002 tournament 2-0 to the detriment of the German team.
