Soccer Gods Have Mercy!!
I grew up in India for a few years before moving to Canada in 1995. I remember from my years in India that people love the sport of soccer. It is quite popular but less popular than the national pastime cricket. India has never qualified for a FIFA World Cup Championship yet. My prayer to the soccer gods is “Soccer Gods Have Mercy!! India should be able to qualify for the World Cup at least once in the coming few years!!”

Football fans all over the globe have been divided in parts on their opinion over which competition is bigger, which stage is bigger, what matters the most, and which of the two outshines the other in any player’s trophy cabinet. So let’s dive into this and compare them, aspect by aspect:-
USA vs Canada
Going into Saturday’s matchup both teams knew that the outcome would be a statement to all of the progress one nation or the other has made going into the final stages of World Cup Qualifying. The choice to play such a highly important match at 4pm local time in Kansas City is questionable at best. Especially considering the temperature was predicted by to be 85F and humid. Some like myself might of thought it would be better to push it back till 7pm when the heat would play less of a factor but that’s just the way of things.

I was so excited to get a ticket for the football game, also known as soccer, between Liverpool, the team I had loved since I was four or six, and some other team that I frankly do not even care to remember. It may have been an Italian team since the game was in Rome, the 1976-77 European Cup. No! I googled it. It was against Borussia Mönchengladbach, a German team. No wonder I forgot them. I only remember World War Two when it comes to anything German in the 20th century, and World War One was not a ball in the park either. I remember the game as if it happened the day before, but luckily I do not remember the war, both of them, since I was not even born. Lucky me, I suppose.

And so, here we are. UEFA Euro 2000, otherwise known as the UEFA European Football Championships (soccer to you) or just plain old Euros (shorter, simpler and easier to remember), is finally underway.

The oldest player ever to win the Fifa World Cup turns 79 today, but surprisingly it’s almost 40 years ago that he achieved that status.

I consider myself born into the most progressive generation for women in soccer. Being able to watch women like Mia Hamm, Brandi Chastain, and Shannon Mac Millan take over the field with their determination and raw skill was nothing short of astounding. To a five-year-old girl, whose entire life was centered around soccer since the day she took her first steps, these women were absolute super heroes. They paved the way for girls all over the world to believe they were enough, that they could play next to the men and make something for themselves.
