South Africa Squad for World Cup

The 13th edition of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup is just a fortnight away, with the inaugural match scheduled to happen on 5th October 2023. Hosted solely by India for the very first time, cricket fanatics across the globe are eager to watch all 10 well-deserved teams set the ground ablaze with power-packed performances across 10 spectacular stadium venues in India.

Apart from the hosts, India, the other qualifying teams are Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Australia, England, Netherlands, New Zealand, South Africa, and Sri Lanka. So far, India, Australia, Afghanistan, England, etc. are among the few nations that have revealed their squad for the biggest cricketing event of the year! Another team who recently revealed their full squad is South Africa. On Tuesday, 5th September, South Africa announced their exciting 15-member line-up for the upcoming World Cup tournament. Continue reading to see which players have been finalised!

South Africa Squad For ICC Men's World Cup 2023

The quadrennial tournament is back with its 13th edition and this time, it will be held on Indian grounds. A series of 48 gripping matches await us and we cannot wait to see which two teams will face each other for the final showdown, at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. The trophy-lifting match will happen on 19th November 2023 but before we predict this year's probable finalists, let's have a look at which South African players made it to the final squad!

The team would be led by the popular ODI skipper Temba Bavuma, who created history by becoming the first black South African cricketer to score a century in a Test Match, and has appeared in 30 ODI matches so far! Out of 15, 8 players have earned their maiden World Cup call-ups, including the captain.

A prominent name in South Africa's cricket team is Gerald Coetzee, the 22-year-old right-arm pacer, who was named South Africa's T20I squad last year in June but played his first match earlier this year. Despite being a relatively new player, Gerald managed to claim 5 wickets in just 2 one-day ODI appearances!

The Proteas Men's squad has an impressive lineup of experienced batsmen such as David Miller, Quinton de Kock, Heinrich Klaasen, Reeza Hendricks, Rassie van der Dussen, and Aiden Markram. We expect some amazing smashes by this star-studded line-up.

Hopefully, we'll see Rassie van der Dussen and Reeza Hendricks bat at number 3 and 4 respectively as they have a steady chance to improve their team’s score with their formidable batting skills.

A player that we will see hitting master strokes and taking vital dismissals for the last time is Quinton de Kock who recently announced his plans to retire from the ODI format after the conclusion of the World Cup.

We will witness the likes of bowlers such as Lungi Ngidi and Anrich Nortje making the batsmen tremble with fear with their fast bowling technique, along with the right-arm fast bowler Kagiso Rabada.

South Africa's team of all-rounders looks promising with big names such as Sisanda Magala and Gerald Coetzee, who are gearing up to make their mark with their impressive skills.

The bowlers and spinners are expected to adapt to India's subcontinental temperatures & conditions and it's time for the outstanding South African spinners to shine; Keshav Maharaj, the finger-spinner, Tabraiz Shamsi the waist spinner, and the right-arm off-spinner Aiden Markram.

Here is the complete 15-member South African squad for the 2023 ICC Men's World Cup tournament.
