Real Madrid and Recent Success
How Real Madrid has become an unstoppable team in European Soccer.
Real Madrid has always been one of the best teams in the world and currently is the best. The rivalry that they have with Barcelona has always attracted millions of fans from around the world because of the level that these guys play at. After Zidane was made Real Madrid's coach, their game went to a whole new level. Real Madrid has won two consecutive Champions League titles in the last two years, an amazing feat because the Champions League contains the worlds best soccer teams.
Real Madrid is the team that has won the most amount of Champions League titles with a total of twelve, with the most recent ones being in the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons under Zidane. Their first title goes all the way back to the 1955-56 season, officially starting their Champions League winning career as they also won the next four in a role. It has always been a formidable force in the Champions League and that has clearly shown in the past few years.
Every great team has its great players and Real Madrid is no different. You can only achieve the success they they have achieved with some key players that really tilt the scales. Most people only talk about attacking players because they are the ones that score goals and get the glory, but a team vitally needs a strong midfield and defense if they want to be the best. Real Madrid fulfills those needs by having wonderful players all around. After the 2014 World Cup, the Costa Rican goal keeper Navas became one of, if not the best goalkeeper in the world. His addition to the merengues team clearly has shown to be beneficial because he has been a key figure in the teams success. Not only the goalkeeper, but Real Madrid has amazing midfield players such as Casemiro and Tony Kroos. The defensive and attacking support that those two give have been phenomenal in the last years. I can't go through all the players but I'll just mention one more before I get more specific about some players that have had the most impact. Marcelo has been amazing for Real Madrid, proving to be vital in the back but also a strong support for the players up top. His contributions have without a doubt been huge in producing the teams recent successes. Now let's get more specific and mention players that are irreplaceable.
Currently, Real Madrid possess the best player in the world, Cristiano Ronaldo, which has had a huge impact on the success of the Merengues. He has won the UEFA best player in Europe and the Fifa Ballon D'or in 2014, 2016 and 2017. Recently, he has been unstoppable and that has a lot to do with the fact that Real Madrid have been unstoppable these last few years too. Ronaldo is in top form and his dedication for the game and for his team is inspiring. I look forward to seeing him play for his club this season and for his country during the world cup.
A team needs a great attacking player like Ronaldo, but I believe Real Madrid has done so well because of their captain too, Sergio Ramos. He is in my opinion the teams best defender and one of the best in the world. He is a key part of the team and without his leadership and defensive abilities, Real Madrid would not be nearly as good as they are today. He was purchased by Real Madrid in 2005 and has stayed there ever since. You have to admire his loyalty and dedication for the club!
Real Madrid fan or not, you have to admire their play style in the last couple of years. Bringing in Zidane has had a huge impact on the teams success and it really shows. Their success can't be traced back to only one person though as I have showed. The combination of great players such as Ronaldo and Ramos along with great coaching is what has made this Real Madrid team so successful in the past years. It's an exciting team to watch and with new players coming in, it will be interesting to see how the team adapts its play style to fit them in a way that doesn't negatively affect their performance.
