Five-time World Cup winners, Australia, announced their preliminary squad for the upcoming World Cup 2023 after claiming their spot in the tournament via the ICC Super League that took place between 30 July 2020 and 14 May 2023 and also served as a part for the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 qualification process.

On 7th August 2023, almost 2 months before the World Cup 2023 officially begins, the Australian Cricket Team revealed their final 15-member squad, becoming one of the first teams to lock and reveal their final squad.

With less than a month before cricket's most significant tournament commences, all eyes are on the 10 qualified teams and their squad and the Aussies have an interesting line-up for us, to say the least. Whether it’s the batsmen or the bowlers, we bet the final 15 players will showcase their best skills on the ground.

One of the players who didn't make it to the final squad is Australian right-handed batsman, Nathan Ellis, surprising everyone. That's not all, there are a lot of names that took fans by surprise. Keep on reading to know why.

Australian Squad Selection For ICC World Cup 2023

ICC World Cup begins on 5th October 2023 and for the first time, it is solely hosted by India. Australia, being one of the qualifying teams, will compete with the rest of the 9 teams in a series of 48 thrilling matches across 10 venues across India. The final showdown will take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on 19th November 2023.

Earlier, the Aussies had revealed an 18-member squad, later reducing it to 15 members, as per the latest guidelines by ICC.

This 3-member cut for the 50-over ODI tournament saw prominent and new players such as the all-rounder Aaron Hardie, leg spinner Tanveer Sangha, and the pacer Nathan Ellis unfortunately not making it to the final squad.

Apart from the unlucky trio, another player who didn't make the Australian squad is 29-year-old all-rounder batsman Marnus Labuschagne, despite ranking no. 5 in the Test Batting ranking by ICC (as of July 31st, 2023) and was part of the winning squad that took the 2023 ICC World Test Championship trophy home.

However, after Travis Head's thumb fracture in the series against South Africa, Marnus could be picked for the 2023 for the World Cup squad!

The Australian team will be led by the right-arm fast bowler, Pat Cummins, who was recently named the number one bowler in January 2023 in the ICC test bowling rankings.

A name that surprised everyone for making it to the final squad is Glenn Maxwell who suffered a minor ankle injury earlier this year and had previously also suffered a fibula fracture before that. Even though he missed a few important ODI matches in 2023 such as the South Africa series, he is all set to visit India, ahead of the upcoming tournament.

The Pocket Size Dynamite aka David Warner was unsurprisingly named in the squad and is expected to smash amazing records with his explosive batting style. Former captain and right-arm leg spinner Steve Smith, along with aggressive middle-order batsman Travis Head (who according to the recent updates, it might be possible that Travis Head would not be seen playing in the upcoming series against India which will be starting before the 2023 World Cup due to a fracture in his left thumb in the ongoing series against Proteas. Adding some depth to the marvellous batting line-up, we have the batting all-rounders Mitchell Marsh, Marcus Stoinis, and Cameron Green. We are expecting the dynamic duo & openers, Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head, to demonstrate some amazing batting skills with their great partnership.

Then we have all-rounder spinners such as Ashton Agar, Adam Zampa, and of course Maxwell- who are expected to take maximum dismissals through their unique bowling styles. Ashton Agar has played just 22 ODI matches in this cricketing career and has taken 21 wickets, with an average of 24.8. We hope this experience is enough to get him off the benches and actually play and add more wickets to his name. Adam Zampa, on the other hand, has appeared in 81 ODI matches and has claimed 136 wickets with an average of 28.08. Along with Mitchell Starc, Sean Abbott, and Josh Hazlewood, the captain, Pat Cummings- all Australian fast bowlers, we expect them to claim quick dismissals.

Here is the complete 15-member Australian Squad who will appear in the 2023 ICC Men's World Cup!

Australian Squad For World Cup: Pat Cummins (Captain), Josh Inglis (wk), Alex Carey (wk), Travis Head Ashton Agar, Mitchell Marsh, David Warner, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Sean Abbott, Cam Green, Glenn Maxwell, Steve Smith, Adam Zampa and Marcus Stoinis.

The Australian Cricket Team has not one but five World Cup title wins to their name, thus becoming the nation with the most wins so far.

They first held the glistening trophy in 1987, followed by winning in 1999, then in 2003, 2007, and claimed their last title in 2015.

The Aussies are the most successful team when it comes to being the ultimate World Cup champions as no other team comes even close to their accomplishments. They have 5 title wins to their name and no other team has even 3 wins, let alone 5! In 2019, they were the runners-up before losing it to the defending champions, England, who won their first title in the last edition.

We are excited to see the Australian team play their 1st World Cup match against India on 8th October at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.
