Barcelona: The Fall Of A Titan?

Will this be the fall of F.C Barcelona or will they return strong as ever?

The city famous for its alleged Olympian origin, is the home to one of the most powerful and prestigious club in world football.

F.C BARCELONA.

Backed by millions of fans and boasting the likes of the G.O.A.T (i.e. Greatest. Of. All. Time) Lionel Messi and A-List footballers like Suarez, Pique, Busquets, Griezmann and Ter Stegen, the club was primed for success.

Even though the club performed modestly in the 2019-20 season, they couldn’t replicate their success from their previous campaigns.

Having lost the league to arch rivals, Real Madrid, and failing to win any domestic cups, the club turned their eyes towards the coveted Champions League Trophy.

Oh!! But that wasn’t supposed to be easy now, was it?

No! Destiny had her own plans.

In the words of the mighty Thanos

“Dread it. Run from it. Destiny arrives all the same.”

AND……., IT DID.

It was on the evening of August 14; a star-studded Bayern Munich team was preparing to face off a starving Barcelona team with their talisman as hungry as ever.

But what can a single man do?

The final whistle was blown.

The score 8-2.

Bayern Munich had just added fuel to the fire.

All hell broke loose.

• The coach, Quique Setien, was sacked by the club.

• The fans campaigned for the resignation of club President, Josep Bartomeu.

• Rumours of Messi leaving the club caused unrest in the Barcelona camp and among fans.

WHAT IS HAPPENING TO F.C BARCELONA?

There were many reasons that caused this downfall, among which were:

• The club’s inability to replace their departed players like Xavi, Iniesta, Neymar and Dani Alves.

• The over dependency on aging players. Messi, Pique, Suarez, Alba are all over 30.

• Change of tactics. The way the club plays now seems that they had moved on from their traditional tiki-taka style of play.

The fans unanimously asked a single question.

What or rather who will save Barcelona?

Amidst all the chaos, the signing of Ronald Koeman, has bought a small glimmer of hope for Barcelona, even though the Messi transfer saga is becoming unpredictable as ever.

I am not a football mastermind or claiming to be one, but I do have some suggestion of my own:

• The club is in dire need of some fresh legs. The club must be reinforced to replace aging players.

• Barcelona must curb their reckless transfer behaviour. As evident by the senselesssignings of Malcom and Andre Gomes among others.

• Barcelona must nurture and grow their homegrown talents. (who knows? Maybe we might find the next Xavi or Iniesta.)

• The famed academy of Barcelona, La Masia, must be bought back to the former standards. (Maybe, another superstar is in the making.)

As I mentioned earlier I am no expert, but I hope the Barcelona board might consider some changes.

As a die-hard fan of Barcelona, I would like to see the club in its former glory.

And would also love for Messi to stay.

Visca el Barca!
