Mikel Arteta, the manager of Arsenal, claimed that his team was "10 times better than last season" after losing for the first time in this Premier League season to Fulham, who had 10 players on the pitch.

After falling behind in the first minute at Emirates Stadium, the Gunners believed goals from Bukayo Saka and Eddie Nketiah would be sufficient for victory.

However, Joao Palhinha scored from close range for Fulham in the 87th minute to rescue a 2-2 draw after Calvin Bassey was dismissed from the game.

"We go up 2-1 and you have to defend for your life, you cannot concede the goal after everything we have done," Arteta remarked.

"We ought to have tallied five, six, and seven goals.

"We were 10 times better this season compared to last season," the player said.

On the same August weekend, Arsenal fell behind in this match due to a defensive blunder, but they came back to win 2-1.

After giving the visitors possession and Andreas Pereira the lead, they were down after 57 seconds, but Arteta was happy with the reaction.

"The game becomes much more difficult in the first minute when you make the error that we did and simply give the opponent a goal," stated Arteta.

"We didn't give anything away with the immediate response that followed and the opportunities we created. Full periods of the game were played under our control, but we failed to score.

After the break, substitutes Nketiah and Fabio Vieira had a significant impact, much to Arteta's delight.

“We made some adjustments in the second half, which shifted the dynamic and improved our connections”, according to Arteta.

"The substitutes had a significant impact. I adore the tenacity and assurance they brought to the group.

Are Arteta's tactical adjustments effective?

Arsenal's season began with two unimpressive victories over Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace, and Fulham was able to frustrate Arteta's team for extended stretches.

This year, Arteta modified the tactical framework. Even if Arsenal is still lined up in the same 4-3-3 system as last season, several of the players' tasks are very different from what they were expected to do when they were vying for the Premier League championship.

Thomas Partey is requested to switch to midfield when the team is in possession while starting at fullback. When Partey enters the Arsenal offence, Declan Rice, a recent £105 million acquisition, will be the deepest midfielder in front of a back three.

The £65 million summer acquisition Kai Havertz is in front of Rice, and at times the audience became impatient with the choices the 24-year-old was making.

Arteta succeeded in turning around the disappointing results. When Vieira entered the game, the home crowd cheered as he converted the penalty Saka had scored from and then helped Nketiah give Arsenal the lead.

For their next game against Manchester United, Arteta stated the replacements meant there were "better relationships" on the field, so perhaps he will go back to the effective method from last season.
