The Town That Never Grew Old
It wasn’t because of a curse — it was because of a promise.

In the valley of Eldreth, the population never changed. Not the faces. Not the names.
Travelers who passed through noticed something strange: children stayed children. The elderly never died. Even the bakery sold the same bread, every day, unchanged.
A historian stayed to investigate. Months turned into years, yet his journal entries never aged. One night, the mayor confessed: “We made a pact during the famine. We prayed to keep what we had. So we did. We just never stopped.”
The historian tried to leave, but the road looped back. His watch stopped. The seasons no longer changed.
When another traveler arrived decades later, she found the same faces — including his. He was behind the counter at the bakery, smiling faintly.
The bread was still warm. Exactly the same.
