The Strawberry Chapter 32

Family Trinkets

By Katherine Aguilar

This chapter of the strawberry goes over the trinkets I put in from my siblings, which I still use to this day. Which I feel have been helpful throughout my daily life; over the years, they have helped me grow.

Boldness

In my mid-twenties, my brother decided he was going to write a book. He had finished college, and they had gotten into education, to get his bearings on what he wanted to really do in his life. One of the things he decided to do was write a book and run for Politics. During that era, it was a pretty bold move for a person in his twenties. He is only a year apart from me. So, just as when we were little, he said, “Kathy, I am running for office!” I thought it was a very bold move to be making. It came out of left field. It was not something I ever thought he would be doing. I saw this as a great opportunity to apply my marketing degree. I will say that working on his political campaign was a family bonding experience, for we all worked together to make it happen. We were very green when it came to running a political campaign. My sister used her original skills; I used marketing and motherly skills; and my brother used his presentation and socialization skills to reach voters. We all went to one Political function after another. We met all levels of people in the political circle, from high-ranking officials in the state. We built a political social circle. It was a fun and exciting time during that election cycle. It was something none of us will ever forget. I loved it. We were taking bold steps in a circle no one thought we belonged in. Still, we found a way to fit into the circle. It wasn’t the time of TikTok, X, or blogs. It was good old-fashioned ground work. We all used our socialization skills to reach people and political officials to make a huge impact at the time. Many thought the campaign was far-fetched. Still, we took it seriously in the end. He didn’t win the election. Still, nothing was lost. I gained experience in how Politics works. I continued to work in Politics after my brother's loss. He took the time to write a book about the experience. I worked for various judges and applied what I learned from my brother's campaign. My sister took a step back, but she still participated from time to time, whereas my mother did not. She kept in the political circle. She loved it too much to let it go. We even brought my grandma into the Political work that I was doing. Grandma loved it. It was something I truly enjoyed doing. It was exciting and fun. It was changing politics in a circle that many thought we never belonged in, as with the rollercoaster of my life. It seemed to all end suddenly out of nowhere. I enjoyed the last campaign I worked on. That person was the only person who won that election in that party. Even they were surprised. It made me feel good. I really believed that person could make a huge difference in the world. Which, as of writing this book. They are still making a huge difference. I am proud of that, without my brother's boldness. I do not think I would've even put politics on my radar, with God’s help. I am using the boldness trinket to write the book The Strawberry. If I didn’t publish one chapter at a time, it would force me to stay on track to finish writing the book.

Be bold even when you think it is impossible. There is a way to make it work.

Investing trinket

This trinket has several levels. Investing in education and retirement. Setting up a financial structure for oneself was a trinket my sister always pushed. I think my brother and I had this trinket put in our trinket box every other day. We heard of one investment group all the time. Too bad I didn’t start investing earlier. Still, I started. Which I considered counts. The trinket of not getting yourself in debt was also huge. Proverbs tells you not to owe anyone. I wished I had used this trinket more often. I would be in a better financial situation right now. Giving back to the community has always been and always will be important to you, with your time and money. We knew it was our responsibility to give back to the community for the many people who mentored us and helped us throughout our childhood. It was our turn to do for others.

A successful person never reaches complete success on their own. There was always someone there to help and guide them along the way.

Remember, someone made time for you. So your excuse cannot be that you did not have time. Someone gave you financial assistance one time in your life. That excuse cannot be an excuse either. They gave what they could give at the time without hesitation.
