The Stawberry Chapter 22
The “teacher”
By Katherine Aguilar
This Chapter of the Strawberry. Is is about finally reaching the goal of a teacher. What a journey it has been. If you work hard enough at it. Even with every stop and go through life it is possible to reach the goal even if it was a turtle pace. It has been a process for me. There have be twists and turns which I am sure they can relate who are reading this with their career choices. While I am a teacher, I am technically a teacher because I do not have my teachers certificate. I was asked to be the teacher for the rest of the year.
I will call myself a teacher of life because of all the twists and turns I have gone through. I can consider the book of the Strawberry on of the biggest accomplishments in my life. I did start writing years ago. I started a book back in thirties when I first started subbing. It ended up at the publishers but it never got published. I have not clue where it ended up after that.
I pulled out different items out of my trinket box for every class I have subbed and at every school. Before I even try to get into the topic of what I need to cover in a class. I need to assess the class to determine what is the class true need. It helps me determine what direction I need to get going in the right direction. Every class is different.
Behavior Modifation
Most of the time it is behavior modification. Most students want guidance and want them to tell them the correct path they should take. Not just to tell them they are great all the time. It sets them up to fail. For the time they do not make it they think they are no longer great.
It is me putting items from my trinket box and sharing them with others, for the future is built in many ways. Not just with the norm has been given. The career of a teacher was never on my path. It is what I felt I was to do when my faith called me to. I didn’t question why I just did it, for my faith was that of a mustard seed. It was something I needed to grow over time. You may never see yourself as a teacher, a doctor, or a lawyer. But someday you wake up and feel that is what you are meant to do. Or your faith calls you to do that. It was at that moment that you were supposed to do not ask why. If it was just my imagination and I was not suppose to be a teacher. Well it is too late it is nine years laters and hend here I am a “teacher” to a lively group of students.
Since it was the second half of the school year. I sure had to pull from my trinket box of all that I have learned so far in my years in education.
Needs and Wants
One thing from the trinket box was "needs and wants. My need was for them to learn or grasp the concept of what they wanted; they had to work for. That it wasn’t going to be given to them. They can want money. But what are they going to do for it? What plan did they set for themselves to make it happen in the future? Going over the words everyday til it made them it sick. Yes, there was a reason. It needed to be ingrained in their head those words. So one day you can use them. In making a decision about their future.
Thinking
Another thing from my trinket box was thinking. It seems like a very easy process. But if you are never taught to think from your childhood, as you get older, you will want someone else to think for you. You will get overwhelmed with everyday decisions. Of the basic things in life. That alone will send you into a downward spiral in life that you may never have wanted. I know I cannot change the outcome for the person reading this chapter or those students. I do believe it will make their journey a little easier as they go. Evening now, through my journey, I am still growing, learning, and adding items to my trinket box. I share them because I do not need to keep them all for myself. It needs to be shared with others, and if they find it fulfilling and necessary, they will then share it with others. It may seem like a simple task, but it is not if you are used to having others make decisions for you.
Why
Another trinket box item is why. I believe I wrote this in another Chapter of the Strawberry; it is “Why.” Oh my goodness, how much time does a person spend asking themselves before saying that word? They go to the store, complain, and ask, “Why?” The person tells them, and they keep asking, “ Why?” They do wrong, and they still ask “Why?” They say this, why? Still, they already know the end result. They can spend so much time asking “why?” If you have time to waste. Keep asking WHY? You already know the answer. The person told you. It will not change the outcome.
Listen
Another trinket box item that pulled out is to listen to. What a value trinket. It is amazing how many people out there in this world do not listen. I have spent my life trying to get someone to listen. I, too, have had trouble listening. It is one sad circle. The love of my life was a man I was not even in a relationship with, but only as friends. Was because he listened. He was a beautiful man. The world would be a better place if people listened more and talked less.
Finally, punctuality, I have told the student repeatedly to get to class on time. How important it is to get to where you are going on time. Respecting someone's time is very valuable because they will never get it back. A minute after I write this paragraph, it's already a memory. I have told the students you are being set up for the future. How you perform in school will pretty much determine how you perform at work. If you have no desire for school, you have no desire for work. That is not how life works.
A few of these trinket are repeats. The reason they are repeated is because these are from the trinket box that I shared with the students in these classes.
Proverbs says a parent corrects their children. Children honor you, father and mother. It seems like a simple message. Today's parents do not know to communicate with their children, for they alone do not know the simple words I have mentioned from the trinket box.
I'm still working on the words myself, and I aim to improve them daily.
As you read these keywords from my trinket box. Try putting them in your own trinket box and sharing them with others. It will help them on their life's journey. Help lift them up and in the right direction.
This generation is growing much faster than previous generations. The world can not keep up with them. Their direction is lost and confused.
Lets lessen the confussion and and add some direction
