The Strawberry Chapter 20
Seeds of life
By Katherine Aguilar
As I was reflecting on writing in this chapter. I looked back at one of my stories, "The Showman," which is not in "The Strawberry," which was published separately. Determining whether to link them together or keep them separate. As I was rereading " The Showman", I couldn't help but start laughing about some of the craziness that happened in my childhood.
I felt I could link some of that story into "The Strawberry".
The Showman is about my father. Daddy wanted to be the boss from the start of whatever he was doing. He wouldn't start from the bottom of a job. He aimed right for the top from the start, and somehow he managed to become the boss.
The Strawberry reflects more on the input in what established a part of my growth with the foundation my mother set. "The Showman" story is a different impact my father had on my life. My father's input was important, also just in a different way. While he felt he had nothing to offer as a legacy, he did have valuable points and craziness to share on what not to do. I would have to say he was an expert in presentation and charisma.
Determination
While many have the determination to get the best job and be the boss of a company. Daddy was like, " Why should I wait and work my way up to boss?" He made himself the boss from the start. He aimed right for the top at the beginning, and somehow he managed to become the boss right from the start.
Daddy never liked school. He believed in the school of life experiences. He could make nothing something. He would make people feel like a million dollars, and people loved it. It was as if they were drinking water. They needed it.
Pride
Daddy was determined to make something of his branch of the Aguilar name. Pretty much that is how all the True Aguilars are.
There is actually a difference. Not everyone with the last name of Aguilar is a True Aguilar. A True Aguilar. You know when they are coming. It is like a slow tsunami. They are coming your way, and they will not stop. It is just the True Aguilar way. My father, while he drove me up the wall, All my Aguilar family was and is the same way.
My father didn't allow his lack of education to stand in the way of making himself a boss.
Or to keep us from having confidence in ourselves.
He did leave a legacy of what to do and not to do. It's like putting spices of life. Sometimes, with the right spice, the dish will come out just right. If you read " The Showman," you may wonder how this can be. Maybe I will add more chapters to the Showman to give you examples of what he would do. This left an impact on us as children.
Students
In schools, they do not have students use their last names anymore. They do not have that added pride or boost they need to be acknowledged by their family name. When I talk to young people today. I ask them what their last name is. I tell them to be proud that their family name means something. I will call them by their last name and use Mr and Ms with their last name. To add confidence to them. To recognize them as a person. To give them the confidence they just may need to strive to be better.
Unbounded Love
This story is about the love that goes beyond blood. Another person's seed of love.
The seed planted in the heart of a mother and daughter can never be taken away.
The youth of this mother was extreme drama and love; their parents' love was solid, and she believed she found the one who helped her out of her drama circle, only to find out they were the cause of her greatest pain. They closed the door to one of the most cherished loves she obtained during their time together. Since this person arrived, they have come with an added member of their family. A bundle of joy. Who she loved from the moment she held her in her arms at birth and cared for her through the years of marriage, she thought was everlasting. The only everlasting love she holds on to from their times together. She was with her daughter, whom she can only see in her mind and heart now, for the papers say she is not the mother. Adoption Papers do not take what is truly hers. No human can remove that time; the cherished memories of her daughter can not be taken from her, never to be removed from her heart.
She may not physically see the daughter she cared for for three years. But she captures every emotion she feels, only to one day be reunited with her. Even if it be decades. She wants her to know Mama was waiting for her.
If she had the chance to relive her life all over again, to start at the beginning of this marriage. She would do it again. For she would not miss the chance to meet this true baby again.
The love she has for her daughter is like a mountain. It can not be moved.
No court can ever say she is not her mother.
For she will be the mother until her last breath.
A mother's love has no bounds.
