The Mirror That Remembered the Wrong Face

You see yourself — but it doesn’t see you.

It hung in the manor’s hall for centuries. A family heirloom, passed from mother to daughter. They said it never reflected lies.

But when the last heir, Evelyn, looked into it, the reflection blinked a moment too late. Then smiled wider than she did.

Over weeks, it grew worse. Her reflection turned up behind her in places she wasn’t — her study, the stairs, the nursery. Servants whispered that they’d seen two Evelyns.

She covered the mirror, but every morning, the cloth was on the floor.

The night she vanished, the glass shattered from the inside out. Each fragment showed a different face — all hers, all frozen mid-scream.

They rebuilt the manor as a museum. Tourists say if you take a photo of the hall, someone else appears behind you — always smiling, always familiar.
