The Little Pepper

Resilience makes a difference

By Katherine AguilarPublished 2 months ago • 2 min read

The mornings seem to start like every other morning. Which people may find boring or routine. I find my mornings enjoyable. It is early, almost the break of dawn. The air is warm; still, there is a breeze. Making the early morning pleasant. It seems impossible to start my morning the same way every day. With meditation and coffee. Opening the doors and watering the plants. Truly, I enjoy this moment in the morning. This morning was even more enjoyable as I watered my little pepper plant. It gave me such excitement this morning that I wrote this chapter today. What one act or slight change in what may seem routine can change your mindset for the rest of the day? As I watered the plant today. I decided to add some remaining soil I had. To the plant. As I did. The little pepper came off the plant.

I think it was ready to be picked. It may be small, but that doesn't mean it can not flavor a dish.

The Farmer

When a farmer plants a crop. They nurture the soil, water it, and prepare it for planting seeds and producing a crop. While they are throwing seeds, not all of them may land on the fertile soil. Some may actually get spillage from the good soil over time. The plant grows, but it doesn't produce much fruit/vegetables, yet it still produces. Over time, the farmer continues to throw soil on the same area. Once nutrient-poor soil becomes rich, it produces more fruit/vegetables.

Over time, the plant looks like it is on its last limb. Still, with the continued soil being placed on the other seeds. The seed that was set to fail and be discarded has the resilience to keep growing and getting stronger even if it doesn't produce as much fruit/vegetables. It still produces.

Society

We, as a society, like this plant. There are times in many people's lives when they feel they were not given, or were not the intended recipient of growth in life. Still, you seized it, used it in your life to make you stronger, nd shared it with others. For now, you have become a farmer, sharing the good soil that spilled your way. Not everyone will use the soil you shared. But for those who are already receiving good soil. It is an added nutrient to their plant/life.

Don't count yourself out before you get started, even though society may want you to.

We can all produce soil with the right mix. It can become a unique soil that only you can produce.

I am proud of this little pepper. For I took it from a seed, and it grew a few peppers. It looked like it was finished. But I cared for it regardless. Not to forget the peppers it already had. It decided to produce again.

The last peppers that this plant produced added a special flavor to the omelet I made with them. This pepper is just the right size to add flavor to a dish that might otherwise be bland.

Surround yourself with good soil and start adding nutrients to your life. For you are like this Pepper.

You can add something to a dish that will make it special.
