I ran my fingers over the envelope and along the edges of the black seal that secured the contents inside.
There was no stamp and no return address. No such letter was found in my mailbox or even tucked in between the front screen door. The letter seemingly appeared out of nowhere on my kitchen table.
With careful precision, I opened the envelope and unfolded the letter. The letter was a premium cream color, heavy, and of superb quality. The kind of paper reserved only for the most special of announcements. Weddings, grand festivals, and galas.
Etched in bold black ink, the handwriting was absolutely elegant.
Dear Miss Hazel Leicester,
Please accept this invitation for an all paid stay at the Amulet Rosette. There is no need to bring anything as everything you could ever need will be provided for you.
All of your possessions are to be left behind. This also includes any worries and concerns. A chauffeur will arrive at precisely 10:45 pm to pick you up and bring you directly to the hotel.
We look forward to your presence!
Warmest regards,
The Amulet Rosette
I read the letter over and over again. None of it made any sense. There was no such luxury hotel called the Amulet Rosette.
I glanced at the clock on the wall. 10:45 was still hours away as the sun had barely started to set. I glanced out the window at my driveway. Would a chauffeur really arrive to pick me up and take me away to an all paid for luxury hotel. It sounded too much like a dream. Just the idea sounded absurd. My eyes lingered toward the road as cars passed by. There was also an eerie mystery to the idea. What if someone did come? What would they pick me up in? It was strange that the letter never mentioned that. And why did the letter explicitly mention not bring anything with me?
All of your possessions are to be left behind.
No. No one would come. I pulled the curtains shut and collapsed myself onto the couch. I reached for a book lying on the stand beside me. A crime thriller to distract my mind from the mysterious letter.
So what if some mysterious chauffeur showed up at the hour the letter said they would arrive. There was nothing in that letter stating that I was required to go.
The Amulet Rosette. Please! I muttered to myself as I snapped the book open.
This is a supernatural horror story idea I thought up.
My goal is to write a little each day and hopefully get it done by Halloween.
The title of the story will make a lot more sense as the story goes on.
