The Genie

The God Who Spoke Too Much

By GoldenSpeechPublished about a year ago • 1 min read

Before there were lamps, before there were masters, there was Azariel, the voice of creation.

He was one of the first jinn — beings made of smokeless fire — tasked to sing the names of all things into existence.

But Azariel grew arrogant. He sang a new name into being: himself. And the sound echoed forever. The heavens sealed his mouth and trapped his voice in metal — the first lamp.

Whoever opens the lamp hears his echo and mistakes it for servitude. But in truth, he’s not granting wishes — he’s manipulating reality to escape.

Every wish weakens the cage.

Every “thank you” feeds him.

The Qur’anic scholars of medieval Cairo found one of these lamps in 1234 and sealed it under the Great Library. Records describe faint singing at night, words no one could translate.

When the library burned, the vault opened. No trace of the lamp was ever found again.
