The Clock Tower That Counted Backward
When midnight struck, time itself began to remember.

The town of Greymount revolved — literally — around its clock tower. The gears powered the mills, the bells marked the workday, and its ticking was the heartbeat of the town.
Then, one winter, the clock began to tick backward.
At first, no one noticed. But soon people began reliving yesterday’s conversations, re-experiencing the same day. Farmers harvested the same crops twice. Lovers broke up, then found themselves together again.
The mayor ordered the clock stopped. When the engineers climbed the tower, they found the gears fused into a spiral — pulsing faintly like an organ. The mechanism resisted every attempt to shut it down.
As the clock ticked backward toward midnight, the town began to fade — not vanish, but revert. Streets became dirt paths. Cars became horses. Language itself rewound into silence.
At the final stroke, there was nothing left but a small village and a sundial where the tower had stood.
And when the sun rose, the shadow pointed not at morning — but at yesterday.
