Shallow Roots

By Katherine Aguilar

Building your house on solid ground is not just a physical matter. It means that the foundation on which you set your family roots to be established in the ground is so shallow that your family falls when things are tough, or do they stand the storms of life before them when they come their way?

Many of today's society have shallow roots in their families. What values did you place in your children? What faith foundation did you establish in your children so they know how to get their paths back straight again? Instead of waiting twenty years down the line, when a person finally gets around to talking to them about faith or finally figures it out, they should give them a try. What parenting did you give the children when they were growing up?

Just because you have children doesn’t make you a parent. It is one reason many people's children are in such a mess today. Time is going by so fast, and yet parents do not see that the faster it goes, the faster their children will drown. They will cry a few years later, wondering what went wrong with their children going down the path they didn’t think they should follow. I always say “I loved them!” Wasn't that enough!? No, it was not. They needed correction, boundaries, and moments for family and faith. Today's children do not have them. They are empty and lost. The children drift from one worthless friendship to the next, hoping to find someone with a better idea of what life is.

As they get older, this pattern continues, and the parents find them hurt, angry, and lonely. Because they realized that all the sacrifices they made for their children didn't yield very happy or productive results. Parents

, they're notthat

become grandparents, hoping to correct their mistakes or to parent their grandchildren, only to see the pattern continue because their children give their children even less parenting than they did.

This cycle of unhappiness can persist until the family's legacy fades. Later generations may look back and wonder if anyone made a lasting difference. Building your house on solid ground means ensuring your family stands together during tough times, working as a unit rather than falling apart.

When one family member is successful, the other is equally proud and successful, and proud of the difference they make in others' lives.

Let's take the time now to build some help someone build solid roots if not in their family, in someone else's. Just because a person doesn’t have children doesn't mean they can not help put some good soil on that root to make it a bit deeper than it was before.
