"Mission: Impossible 7" Review - A Journey Through Inconsistencies

Disclaimer: This review focuses solely on the film itself, disregarding other aspects.

"Mission: Impossible 7" - a blockbuster imported from the U.S., widely anticipated and simultaneously released in China. To the untrained eye, it might seem straightforward, but those familiar with the industry know that achieving this synchronization is no easy feat. However, it's not as challenging as it used to be.

The intention behind importing such films is to provide the audience with entertainment and sustain the industry, which is commendable. Unfortunately, no matter how good the intention, it can't salvage a lackluster movie. After watching it, I'd wager that the film won't maintain an 8/10 rating on platforms like Douban.

The feeling of "Mission: Impossible 7" is akin to meeting a stylish guy with a cool hairstyle and trendy attire who asks, "Want a disc?" He leads you to a modern and avant-garde place, carefully opens his coat, and leans in with a heavy accent, saying:

"Interested?"

Initially, you might be skeptical. You think, "Is this guy really selling discs?" But he becomes anxious, "Do you want it or not? Buy one, get one free, European and American editions!"

Part Two:

This film pretends to be about artificial intelligence.

The main villain isn't a human but an AI with malicious intent. Although I've forgotten its name, let's call it "Empty Intellect" for now. It's portrayed as intelligent and ethereal, making it a seemingly ingenious setup. It's impressive how the film managed to address this year's hot topic given its production timeline. However, this intelligent AI's methods are disappointingly mundane, resorting to stabbing instead of utilizing futuristic weaponry. It's like a kung fu master using only basic punches and kicks.

Despite the film's attempts to depict a terrifying AI, it fails to convey the threat it poses, and its ambitions are inadequately explored. The climax involves a showdown in which the AI's sinister plan is thwarted in an anticlimactic and unsatisfying manner. The narrative lacks depth and fails to deliver any significant impact.

Part Three:

The story, if solid, could have saved the film.

"Mission: Impossible" is known for its thrilling action scenes. But even if the AI premise was discarded, a compelling espionage story could have been enough to justify watching. Sadly, after the first few minutes, the story unravels continuously. Every minute feels like a disappointment.

The main plot revolves around the ideological transformation of an American female street rogue. Her transition from a mischievous troublemaker to a crucial ally of the protagonist lacks believability and coherence. Characters' motivations and emotions crumble, and everyone becomes a mere NPC (non-playable character) serving the overarching theme of "friendship."

Part Four:

Logic is thrown out the window, and common sense follows.

A pivotal key, critical to the world's fate, is transported carelessly in a suit pocket on a commercial flight. This results in a chaotic fight among global powers, and the disregard for basic security measures is baffling. The film's critical exchanges take place on a moving train, a scenario challenging to secure and control. Characters make reckless decisions, and the plot's lack of practicality undermines its credibility.

In the end, "Mission: Impossible 7" lacks depth, consistency, and a compelling narrative. It abandons logic and neglects common sense, leading to a disjointed and unsatisfying viewing experience.
