Businesswoman Chapter 34
Bears
Clippings from Fascinder’s hair drifted to the floor. A low din of voices punctuated by bursts of laughter pervaded the barbershop.
“Like I was saying, all this can make a better day for the people, for us. We can strive to rise above the nonsense,” he said in his chair. He talked so much, it seemed he’d never have his haircut.
“Boy, you’re crazy,” Elder Pilltarch mentioned.
“No, I'm serious. This will be a brighter day for our race, our nation.”
“And what about Businesswoman? Won’t she have something to say about all of this?”
“I’m not worried about her. She’s a hindrance. A slight annoyance. She can be dealt with, too. I’m more concerned with changing hearts. I’m focused on that.”
Elder Pilltrach scoffed. He clipped.
“What’s that all about? I said I’m serious!”
“That may be so, but most of America and this world don’t want what you're pushing. When you forget about the individual, you forget about freedoms of the press, faith or non-faith, and the maintenance of a proper government.” The bell pealed. In walked Businesswoman herself, Loreen Breen.
The room seemed to brighten as if a thousand watt light bulb had just been switched to the on position. The beauty parlor was just on the opposite side of the barbers.
“Mrs. Breen,” Fascinder said.
“Rameek Coers,” she replied.
“Why did you have to schedule an appointment when I’m supposed to be here?” Coers queried.
“Why did you have to go to the barber on a break in my day?”
The two had daggers in their eyes and looked like two bears ready to strike claw for claw, tooth for tooth.
“Miss Breen, your chair’s ready!” Called the beautician. She smiled broadly.
“We'll deal with these matters with civility at another time,” Loreen addressed Fascinder. He scowled.
