With a sense of what it meant to not work, Lisa felt she had been living a lie. She tried to relax. Fluffy pillows slammed over her head as she slept in on this “staycation.”

While she didn’t go out anywhere, she shunned using her devices except for entertainment. Like a hermit crab in search of a new shell home, Lisa dragged herself from the large flat screen to her kitchen table.

Her chef, Gastin Frame, prepared her an acai bowl. The sweet, cold, and healthy alternative drove her. The bits of pineapple, strawberries, and blueberries danced in her tongue.

“Thanks, Gastin,” Lisa acknowledged.

“My pleasure, Miss Conway,” he replied.

He looked youngish even though he had been in his early fifties. He retired to clean up Lisa’s bowl and the machine used to make the frozen treat.

Lisa heard a vibration. The buzzing noise came from her phone. She brightened. Work! She jetted over to her mobile device. She looked at the caller ID. It was a junk text suggesting that she take a job for sixty dollars and an hour. The last time she checked, she had made six hundred thousand dollars a day.

In the time she had fought the urge to get back into the saddle and command her troops on the digital playing field. To assuage her anxiety over walking through her spacious apartment and looking at her devices, she felt she would go for a run.

A track star, she put in the work with her feet pounding the ground. The sky looked cloudy but there didn’t seem to be any sign of rain. By breathing in through her nose and exhaling from her mouth, she improved her steps with every measured breath. She enjoyed the heat of it and the runner’s high, too.
