Businesswoman Chapter 211
Start
Loreen never attended a faith-based service. In her forty-one years, she had been to weddings and funerals but not a full Sunday service. This moment did not change that constant trajectory, her six-year-old son Bonham asked her, “Mommy, why don’t we go to church?”
“That’s an excellent question. I’m going to let you go to services by the Islamic, Jewish, and Christian faiths to start,” Loreen answered. In the three weeks since this revelation, she had made good on her word.
She looked at her son in his caramel brown colored eyes.
“So what did you think, son?” Bonham looked down and then up again.
“They were kind of weird. I was into some of the music in the Christian church. The Jewish people and the Muslims kind of looked at me funny, but let me stay for the service.”
“And you found the time spent there okay?”
“For the most part, I was shuffled into the kids’ centers. But I could see what was going on before I went into those spaces.”
“Your friends have all been to these services. What do you think about returning to any of these houses of worship?”
Bonham looked at his mother. It seemed as if he had just been stoked with the fire in his soul.
“I think it’s good for them but not for me.”
“So, what was the best experience?”
“I think the Jewish and Islamic services because I couldn’t understand a word they said,” he said. The two of them traveled in the back of the Goulding. She turned to him and admitted that she had not been pressured by her parents to attend church and that she was a nonbeliever at his age.
“Really? Then I guess I’m the same way.”
“Do you want to go back?”
“No.”
