What is autism?

Autism, also known as autism spectrum disorder (ASD), is a complex developmental condition characterized by challenges with social interaction, communication, and repetitive behaviors. It varies widely in severity and presentation among individuals.

Hi! My name is Katherine, and I’m an autism mom.

Four years ago, I began writing about my experiences with pregnancy and motherhood. After the birth of my daughter, I made many lifestyle changes to prioritize spending more quality time with her. As days turned into weeks, I noticed that time was slipping by quickly, and I became increasingly aware that something was different about my daughter.

My daughter stopped talking altogether when she was 1 year and 2 months old. This sudden change prompted concern, and I started to realize that there might be underlying issues. When the medical specialist confirmed that my daughter had autism, my entire worldview shifted.

To other mothers and families going through similar experiences, please know that you are not alone. Some days feel overwhelming, but celebrating even little progress is a meaningful victory.

I understand that for some families, this journey can be challenging, but support and understanding from a community can make a significant difference. We must continue to educate ourselves and others, fostering awareness and compassion to create a more inclusive environment for children with autism.

My goal is not just to create more awareness about Autism but also to help parents gain a deeper understanding of the condition, including its signs, challenges, and ways to support their children. And to develop sensory skills to help our autistic children better process sensory information, improving their daily functioning and quality of life.
