Chapter 1: Corinth, Achaia

"You...want us to go where now?" Peter was dumbfounded at the moment.

Peter, Luke, and their new companion, Paul were currently in Thessalonica.

"God said that's our next stop." Paul, who was formerly Saul, replied.

Peter looked to Luke for answers.

The trio soon walked out of the busy area to a quiet field as they finished their conversation there.

"Corinth isn't the best place we could preach-". Peter began.

"I know what you say. But I heard our God loud and clear." Paul replied softly.

"Then to Corinth we go." Luke declared.

-------------------------

The church in Corinth-

"I-feel-really-di-dizzy-."

Peter and Paul had to keep Luke steady as they walked through the streets of Corinth.

"The Spiritual Warfare is higher in these places." Peter said, turning to Paul.

"We wrestle not against flesh and blood..." Paul replied wearily as him and Peter gently set Luke down on a bench.

Immediately, Luke jumped up and away from the bench, currently standing in the road.

"They're everywhere! It's unclean!" Luke shouted.

Paul quickly grabbed Luke's arm and pulled him onto the sidewalk as a horse-led chariot strode by.

"I get it, but we need to stay unnoticeable." Paul told Luke in a hushed tone of voice.

"We need to find this church. It should be a safe haven." Peter said as the 3 of them walked down the sidewalk.

Many people glanced at them as they walked by.

"Something is odd about those three..."

"The Holy Spirit shows me differently." Paul said. "They blend themselves with the way of these people."

Peter sighed deeply.

Luke took ahold of Paul's shoulder, steadying himself. Then he started shaking Paul roughly.

"What is it?" He asked Luke.

"We're being followed." Luke whispered, nodding behind them in indication to where the suspect could be.

"Just keep walking. Don't look back." Peter instructed firmly.

And someone was following them.

They kept close yet kept a distance.

The trio turned a corner that took them into another street.

Multiple chariots passed next to them on the road, the sound of hooves and wooden wheels on stone drowned out every other noise around the apostles.

"Are we still being spied upon?" Paul said to Luke, attempting to keep his voice down but also loud enough so his companion could hear his question.

"The angels threw them off course." Peter replied instead, Luke nodded to confirm.

"I'll explain more when we're not in the open." Peter added.

Staying and praying-

The 3 apostles were sitting around a wooden table, eating soup and bread.

Their only source of light were the 2 candles lit on the table.

Their host, Liss, was a young woman who had received them just as it was getting dark.

"You're lucky you lot found a place to stay before it got too dark." Liss said as she served them water through a copper pitcher.

"It is only by the grace of God that we managed." Peter said as he took a drink of his water.

"The grace of who?" Liss asked.

The 3 apostles stopped eating and looked at the woman. Then they looked at each other, as if deciphering who would preach Jesus.

"Should we cast lots?" Luke chuckled nervously.

"No," Paul whispered, shaking his head. "Liss, is it?" Paul asked, looking at her.

The woman nodded her head slowly, a look of slight confusion on her face.

"Have you not heard who Jesus is?" Paul asked.

"I haven't. I mostly stay at home. My father doesn't allow me to follow any other gods." Liss replied.

Peter nearly choked on water, and Luke just looked astonished. Meanwhile, Paul stayed calm.

"Other gods?" Peter questioned as he faced the woman.

She nodded.

"My dear, there is only One True God. And He died for all of our transgressions." Luke interjected.

"I have not heard of such god who has done such an act." Liss replied cautiously.

"That's because no other 'god' would do such an act for sinful man. Jesus is the only One who would and could." Peter said firmly as he stood up.

"What...god...do you follow?" Paul asked as he too stood up, standing next to Peter as if to hold him back.

"The moon god." Liss replied, seemingly getting more nervous.

Just as Peter was about to say something, Liss added, "I go to a local church: the church of Corinth."

All the apostles seemed to have frozen at her remark.

"I will show you to your room and that is all." Liss said, bringing the apostles out of their thoughts.

That night, the apostles didn't sleep; they prayed.

----------------------------------

A Sinful Church-

"How could they allow such blasphemy in the church?!" Peter said aloud.

The 3 apostles were on their way to the church of Corinth.

They were walking down a wide and busy alley with stands and vendors to their left and right, selling produce, spices, live poultry, and accessories.

"Luke, if I may ask, who do you suppose was following us?" Peter asked, Paul was busy navigating to their destination.

"Maybe someone who doesn't want us here; someone being led by an unclean spirit." Luke replied.

"I thought the same." Peter said, lost in thought.

"Keep up, we're almost there." Paul encouraged.

------------------------------------

The Prize-

"Keep up, we're almost there."

The cloaked figure watched from afar in an alleyway as Paul waved his friends along.

"They have no idea what's to come." The figure grumbled under his breath, covering his mouth and nose with a black cloth.

He watched a moment longer before turning and fleeing.

Reinforcements had to be gathered to stop them.

And possibly a higher power...
