Anna felt empty. Ever since Lila, her best friend who always filled her days, died in a tragic accident, her world has turned dark. No more Lila's laughter, no more shoulders for Anna to lean on. Every memory brings only a piercing emptiness, like a wound that never heals. Months passed, but the loss still shackled her heart.
One afternoon, with no apparent purpose, Anna entered an old library on the edge of town. It was a quiet place, with dusty shelves that held outdated books. As her eyes swept through the rows of books, she came across a shabby leather-bound book with a picture of an ancient mirror in the center. The title was printed in small print: *Mirror of Time*. Feeling curious, Anna picked up the book and decided to read it.
On a quiet night, Anna opened the first page of the book. The story was about a girl named Lila who died in a mysterious accident. Anna was surprised, as the name and some details in the story reminded her of her own best friend. The further she read, the greater the discomfort that arose in her heart. Until finally, she came across a page unlike any other: a striking red ink inscription that read, *"If you want to know the hidden secret, open the door of time and find the answer before all is lost. ”*
Underneath the writing, there was a strange incantation. Anna's curiosity was so great that she unconsciously recited the spell in a low voice. Instantly, a bright light enveloped her. The world around her spun, and everything went dark.
When Anna opened her eyes, she found herself in a place that felt familiar, yet different. The buildings around her looked older, simpler. With a pounding heart, she realized that she had stepped back in time-twenty years ago, just before Lila's accident.
In his confusion, he saw a man standing on a street corner. The figure looked young, but his face carried a heavy burden. It was Robert, a name that was also mentioned in the book *Mirror of Time*. In the story, Robert was the one who tried to unravel the mystery of Lila's death. Hesitantly, Anna approached Robert and called his name.
Robert looked at her, surprised but calm. After an awkward conversation, he revealed something surprising. “There was something wrong with the accident,” he said in a heavy voice. “I tried to find out, but there are things that must not be revealed.”
Anna was silent, her body tense. “What do you mean?” she asked.
Robert sighed. “Lila... she's not who you think she is.”
The statement confused Anna, but she forced Robert to explain further. Reluctantly, Robert led her to where Lila's accident happened. The street was quiet, but there was an eerie aura about it. Robert stopped and looked at Anna with a serious expression.
“I have to tell you the truth,” he said quietly. “Lila... she wasn't your best friend. Everything you remember about her, all those memories, are illusions.”
Anna was stunned. “What do you mean? I don't understand.”
Robert shook his head, his gaze full of compassion. “You created Lila in your mind. She's not a real person, Anna. She was a part of you that was lost. The death you remember is not the death of your best friend, but your own emotional death. You created Lila to fill that void, to deal with the pain you couldn't accept.”
The world around Anna seemed to collapse. She looked at Robert with eyes that were starting to get wet with tears. “It can't be. I remember everything. I remember Lila's laughter, her smile, everything we ever did together.”
Robert shook his head again. “Those are memories you created yourself. Lila was a reflection of you-the part you lost because you couldn't accept reality.”
Tears began to stream down Anna's cheeks. Everything she believed in, all the memories of the friend she loved, now felt like a big lie. Yet, in that pain, there was a truth she couldn't deny. She remembered that empty feeling, that sense of loss that she could never explain. Lila, the friend she had always loved, turned out to be a broken part of herself.
When Anna opened her eyes again, she was back in her room, the book *Mirror of Time* lying on her lap. The morning light filtered through the window curtains, warming her face. She stared at the book with tears still flowing, but a sense of relief was beginning to emerge. All that she had experienced, all that traveling, turned out to be her own inner journey.
Lila, the friend she had loved, was a part of her that she had lost. Now, Anna knew that she had to make peace with herself, accept the loss, and move on. There is no more Lila. There is only Anna, who must rediscover true happiness. For the first time in a very long time, Anna felt she could try.
