Type 1 diabetes is not as common as Type 2 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes requires insulin substitution shots to replace the hormone that a person with diabetes’ body no longer makes. Islet cells in the pancreas are what normally produce insulin and they also are made up of cells called beta cells, which analyze blood sugar levels that in full-blown diabetics are measured with a glucometer. The immune system turns traitor on islet cells when somebody becomes a diabetic. Beta cells cannot release insulin anymore when diabetes actually manifests itself. Alpha cells produce glucose. In diabetes, only the alpha cells function with glucose. Islet cells are attacked by the body’s immune system, and this makes type 1 diabetes an autoimmune problem.
To not cover everybody automatically at birth is like denying citizenship to babies born in the United States from foreign parents. Our current atmosphere is not conducive to even contemplating single payer. As someone who wants to go to law school to become a health care reform activist, I’m still puzzled by why we haven’t thought of single payer yet. What single payer actually means is that all medical care that is considered necessary medical care is covered. This doesn’t mean plastic surgery but it means anything considered life-saving. We just can’t be like Canada, Spain, or South America. The United States healthcare crisis makes us one of “those types of countries” right? We make all our citizens pay for health care. They go broke trying to take care of themselves, often not having a job for months at a time.
You can get herpes in a variety of ways. It is silent, however, which means you could have herpes and not even know you have it. Herpes type 1 is oral herpes, which means that it turns into a cold sore. Cold sores are easy to treat give or take the method you use, such as topical anti-viral medication available over the counter. What you do not want to do is have oral sex with somebody who has a cold sore, which could mean that you can contract herpes from unprotected oral sex, without using a dental dam for protection with either gender.
Histrionics who have narcissism as well need to be the center of attention in all interactions. We are, however, discussing plain old histrionics in this regard. They need to be the center of attention. Personality disorders usually get better with age and some therapy but for some people, this is not always the case. Sadly, people with personality disorders do not see themselves as needing treatment unless their life circumstances push them into it when their resources are stretched too thin. I mean they only go when they feel really bad. If not before, they don’t see the need for treatment or help.
Safe sex involves using various forms of protection such as the condom, spermacide, or female condom. The pill is a somewhat effective form of contraception that prevents pregnancy. A diaphragm is also a form of protection although the best protection is no sex. Birth control implants or IUDs (intrauterine devices) work to protect against pregnancy. Safe sex or no sex because you want protection against sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). Dental dams also work after oral, anal, or vaginal sex. Any barrier of any kind helps protect against skin-to-skin contact or fluids, which can spread the STD.
Marijuana is a drug that does both harm and good. As for harm, it decreases motivation in addicts who smoke too much. Second-hand smoke can give people around the smoker contact highs, but it can also give people with HIV appetites or people with cancer who feel nauseated from chemo more of an appetite. The use of cannabis and cannabinoids are what gives marijuana its medicinal value. Marijuana can cause dizziness, tiredness, throwing up, and hallucinations. Few studies have been done on the long-term use of marijuana. More research needs to be done by the medical establishment.
