Visit my homepage. I am a polymath and a rōnin scholar with interests in many areas, including political science, economics, history, and philosophy. I've been writing about all of these topics, and others, for the past two decades.
Why I Love Passive Voice
One should use passive voice, when it is reasonable to use it. Unfortunately, "they" tell us not to use passive voice, when writing in English.
Do We Need General Philosophy to Argue for Anarchism?
Generally arguments for anarchy rely on philosophy of rights and ethics. Proudhon's discussion on property is a good example. Similarly Ayn Rand argued for limited government, due to the consequence of large government violating our fundamental rights. The problem with using such general philosophical arguments is that it can be very difficult to build a common foundation. As far as I see it, government violates the basic rights of bodily autonomy and selective inaction, but justifying that vision to others requires that they understand rights in the same way that I do.
Trump's "Chinese Virus" Comments are Simply Trollish
People have been quite vocal about the usage of terms like "Chinese Virus." While I have to admit I find it amusing that people have an issue with such usage. After all there are many other diseases that are named after regions, such as MERS (Middle Eastern Respiratory Syndrome) and Zika, which is named after the Zika Forest in Uganda. Does anyone think that MERS is antisemitic or Islamophobic?
Medium is Controlling its Coronavirus Narrative
Just like we have Twitter, Facebook, Quora, Stack Exchange, and so on, I'm hoping that the writing community will have a number of platforms on which to write, including Vocal, publish0x, and Medium. I had a lot of hope for Medium in particular, and found it before Vocal. However, more and more I am finding their practices revolting, and perhaps nowhere are their nepotistic and destructive practices more obvious than with their treatment of the coronavirus scare.
The Potential Success and Failures of Social Distancing
Social distancing is the process of decreasing the amount of time that people have in contact with one another, with the hope that it will reduce the spread of communicable disease. Unfortunately, while it’s understandable that the public health system wants to limit the rate of spread of the SARS-CoV-2, the social impact is almost certainly going to be profound, and it may even end up being worse than the disease itself.
Is This 2008, or is it 1929?
This article is going to be short, as it's more just a warning (though it isn't financial advice). A lot of people were shocked by the recent events in stock market. A lot of people have never experienced anything like this. Others remember 2008 and probably think that it's come again. However, I'm not convinced that this downturn is another 2008. I think it's another 1929.
What are Chloroquine and Azithromycin?
There seems to be a lot of confusion over chloroquine and azithromycin, and the nature of antibiotics and antimicrobial agents. Hopefully this article clears up some of the confusion. Multiple citations have been provided so that the reader can do further research. Always consult with a doctor before taking medical action.
