Christmas Specials Worth... Playing?
Hello, and welcome back to Silver Linings where I put a spotlight on the maligned, forgotten, and ignored. Everyone that celebrates Christmas has at least half a dozen DVDs of Christmas specials that are watched every year. People have grown up watching Charlie Brown finding the true meaning of Christmas and the Grinch stealing presents. They've watched George Bailey realize what the world would be like if he wasn't born, in addition to tons of other stories. On top of that, I guarantee that, no matter where you live, at least half of the local radio stations are playing marathons of Christmas music, both traditional and not so traditional, that run from Thanksgiving to New Year's Day.

'An American Christmas Carol' - Can Fonzie Be Scrooge?
Hello, and welcome back to Second Chances where I give another look at the maligned and forgotten. Every Christmas, just about every TV channel airs a rendition of Charles Dickens' most popular work A Christmas Carol at some point. Everyone has grown up with Scrooge portrayed by Alistair Sim, George C. Scott, Patrick Stewart, Michael Caine, and Kelsey Grammer, and those are just the most well-known examples. The tale of a miser visited by ghosts on Christmas Eve is a tale just about everyone knows.

Silver Linings Playlist: Arlo Guthrie
Hello, and welcome back to Silver Linings where I find the best of the maligned and forgotten. My family has several traditions when it comes to Thanksgiving, ranging from the huge spread of sweet breads at breakfast to watching Son In Law. However, one of our biggest annual traditions is listening to Arlo Guthrie's eighteen-minute-long epic folk song "Alice's Restaurant Massacree"during dinner. The story song of a good deed gone awry that leads to pure WTF at a Vietnam draft is a Thanksgiving staple. Rock radio stations have played it every Thanksgiving Day for nearly fifty years and it's even been made into a movie (that I haven't gotten around to seeing yet).

'Son in Law': Giving Thanks with the Weasel
Hello, and welcome back to Second Chances where I give the maligned and forgotten another shot. Okay, I'm about to do something so heinous and nonsensical that I think it warrants the death penalty in several states. It's something that some may consider to be the ultimate act of evil.

'Silent Hill 4': The Forgotten Horror
Hello, and welcome back to Second Chances where I give the maligned and forgotten another shot. As I mentioned before, I consider the original Silent Hill to be one of the greatest horror games of all time. Even though it's nearly twenty years old, its story still knows how to chill you to the bone, its perfect atmosphere keeps you from getting relaxed, and the combat and puzzle solving are both easier to grasp and more involved than in other horror games of the time. Though the PS1 visuals can be a bit hard to look at these days, it is still the closest I've found to the perfect horror game.

Silver Linings Playlist: Halloween
Hello, and welcome back to Silver Linings where I spotlight the best of the weird, maligned, and forgotten. Halloween is my favorite time of the year; I've said that before. Any excuse to indulge in the creepiest movies and games is fine by me. However, I do lament that my radio largely gets ignored during this time as there's very little in terms of music that fits the holiday. That stands in stark contrast to Christmas which sees everyone and their grandmothers putting out albums singing the same Christmas songs that have been sung for centuries.

'Halloween 3': Who Needs Michael Myers?
Hello, and welcome back to Second Chances where I talk about things that deserve another shot. There are few horror movies that have been more influential than John Carpenter's 1978 classic Halloween. The story of babysitters terrorized by the psychopathic Michael Myers on Halloween night became the template for almost all the slasher flicks that came out afterward. It was also a massive success, taking in $70 million worldwide on a budget of only $300k. Naturally, sequels were wanted by the studio, but Carpenter and his co-producer Debra Hill didn't want to rehash the Michael Myers story over and over. So they struck a deal with the studio. The second would continue from the original's cliffhanger, and the follow-ups would present new stories. That deal gave us Halloween 3: Season of the Witch.

The "No Zombies" Playlist
Hello, and welcome back to Silver Linings where I find the best and weed out the worst. Halloween is my favorite time of the year. I get the perfect excuse to dig out the monster movies and games (like I really need an excuse considering I already coveredtwo horror movies last month). They eat up the entire month of October for my girlfriend and me, and I wouldn't have it any other way!

Euphoria Mourning: No, It's Not a Typo
Hello, and welcome back to Second Chances where I take another look at a maligned or forgotten piece of pop culture. For the longest time, I was behind the times when it came to my musical interests. When my classmates were part of the grunge revolution, I was still listening to classic rock. I didn't get caught up until I got to college in the late 90s. That was when I first learned of Chris Cornell.
