What is Art?

Art can mean a lot of different things. It could be music, books, plays, TV, movies or actual art. Since Vocal already has a category for music and the others I am guessing the new category Art will be actual art. I will briefly mention the other categories and go into my experience with art. Making and buying it.

If you have been following me or have read any of my music articles you know how I feel about music. Music is life. I love listening to new artists. Olivia Rodrigo's first listen was a game changer. I am so excited that after two years she is coming out with a new album this year. I finally went to my first concert, actually three in four days. I will talk about my experience in a different article.

I love reading and writing. I have read a lot of books. I read my first Fantasy series at 13. Of course it took me over a year to complete it. It was David Eddings Belgarath series. I started writing poems in my teens. I had always been good at writing assignments in school. The poems were the first things that were original.

I am going to see my first play this summer. I am going to see Wicked. Next year I am going to see Hamilton. I can not wait. I love the music and I have seen the video of the whole play.

TV shows and movies are the way I made it through High School and College. From Fast and the Furious to Pitch Perfect. I even did a College paper on a TV show. The Show was One Tree Hill. Yes I watched all the Teen shows. One Tree Hill, Gilmore Girls and Buffy the Vampire Slayer are my favorite shows. When I was in Junior College they held a conference on Buffy and all of the creators of Joss Whedon's other shows. It was amazing.

Let's get to the Art part. When I think of art I think of two categories: painting and drawing, and photography.

Let's start with Photography. Photos have the power to capture a moment. THey can make you feel emotions. They can bring back memories. Some Photographers are crazy. The ones that get up close with dangerous animals. The ones that are in the middle of a war taking photos. The ones that jump out of airplanes to get photos of skydivers.

Then there are the ones that capture moments that we will remember forever. This could be a Historic moment. An example would be President Obama's ingratiation or the night he won. Another example would be the collapse of the Berlin Wall. I have to mention the StoneWall riots and the passage of Gay Marriage. The photos of people when they passed it mean a lot to me.

Seeing how happy everyone was is amazing.

The other side of this would be Historic sports moments. Like the Miracle on Ice. Hank Aaron breaking the home run record. The Georgia Bulldogs winning their first title in 40 years. Those photos are priceless. Whe they did it again the next year those photos may be even more special.

Let's move on to painting and drawing. I am jealous of the people who can draw. The people that draw comics are incredible. It is crazy that all the drawings are done by hand. The same thing can be said for the people that do storyboards for an animated film. I am jealous because I believe everyone can learn to paint. Painting can be abstract. Drawing is more precise.

I have an appreciation for paintings. I took an Art appreciation class in middle school and loved every minute of it. I loved learning about all the great artists and the different periods. Do I remember a lot of what I learned, that would be a no. I know the Renaissance period. I know popular names like Rembrant, Picasso, Van Gogh. Then you have the modern painters like Andy Warhol and Thomas Kinkad. I had an opportunity to buy an original Thomas Kinkad but I didn't and I regret not buying it. He was still alive at the time and it was only around 300 dollars.

It is time to talk about my experience with trying to make Art. With Photography I have a fascination with taking photos of spider webs. I love the design of them. I have taken pictures of my pets. Most of my friends do not like having their pictures taken.

I have tried to paint before. It was just painting different color lines on a canvas. It looked OK when I got done. I have also worked with Resen. I like all the different things you can make with it.

My experience with buying art. I have bought some photos before. They were mostly the nude art kind. For paintings I have bought paintings where they mixed different colors together and just poured them on a canvas. It made some cool colors. I have had someone paint me a rainbow flag and then sent it to a company and they copied the painting onto a shirt and they added a unicorn digitally onto the shirt. I have bought a breast painting. They added paint to their breast and pressed a canvas to it. You can not tell it is a breast painting. The last two I bought from the same person. One was a black unicorn with a blue sky and a black tree. In the corners it had the pride flag and the asexual flag. The other was a black fairy and black dragon with a colorful background.

I love art in all its forms. If you have not tried painting, give it a try.
