Hobbling off the eighteenth green Chester Brewster waved to the small friendly gallery while his caddie packed up the adaptive equipment. Slowly making his way into the clubhouse, the retired military combat warrior opened the gated barrier himself, not seeing anyone else around fulfilling their traditional responsible duties.

“I remember when the guard used to respectfully salute me,” said the veteran who grew up too quickly serving in the ranks making quick decisions, “now there is no one near.”

Continuing his journey into the canteen area nicknamed “The Mesh Tent At Links to The President Golfing Experience” the competitor searched for answers. Taking a seat, hanging the cane on the counter, the wounded individual peered up to the menu.

“I am Rosie, been here since the big one,” an elderly lady introduced herself, “what can I get you?”

“Well, Rosie, I will order the Christina’s World Egg Tempera sandwich along with the George Frozen In Ice drink,” he requested.

“Very good decision, son” she replied towards the maturing adult while retreating to the kitchen.

Grabbing the walking stick Chester visited the cafeteria scenery, observing two wall displayed reprinted commercially copied visions, presenting a woman in the field crawling and a powerful commander leading his naval troops, the choreographed decorative scene, acted as a conversation piece.

“One was created before the big one when war was a simple argument with firearms,” Rosie paused, “the other after the unthinkable happened, here is your food.”

Coming back to the counter curious Chester started asking questions, “why are the paintings here?”

“Well, the President, you know the golfer who lives at the White House, wanted to send a message to those warriors resting in peace enjoying the 19th Happy Hour discounted spirits,” Rosie explained, “apparently the young girl, in ‘Christina’s World’ by Andrew Wyeth travels free and independent from point A to Point B despite a you know physical condition, while the German Emanuel Leutze’s art work ‘Washington Crossing The Delaware’ is a young America trying to find Independence.”

“On Christmas Eve,” Chester added, referencing the strategy implemented during the holiest nights.

“Interesting decision, that worked, son,” Rosie noted, “Christina’s image was captured after the big one and ruffled feathers, maybe due to being close to the atomic bomb event.”

“It was my mistake that makes me walk differently,” Chester confessed.

“And do you have someone watching out, making sure you're all right?” Rosie questioned.

“I have a dedicated caddie,”

Taking a few minutes to digest the meal, Chester noticed his second arm enter the eatery, “wanted to let you know, they are finished counting the scoring, you won, here is the twenty-dollar gift card, the medal, and a nice plastic blue ribbon.”

“Well thank you,”

“What are you doing?” the Caddie inquired.

“Having a nice conversation about paintings and living independently with Rosie,”

“I thought we were going to the diner,”

“I was starving,” Chester softly spoke, “and needed an energetic pick me up.”

“Did you get it?”

“Yeah, just by looking at two messages and interpreting something,”

“And thinking things through?” The Caddie quizzed.

“That is what the artist is here for,” Rosie interrupted handing them a paper slip.

A few minutes later the two paid the check and feeling tired Chester approached the exit, listening to the caddies' directions.

“Here I got this,” the caddie offered.

“Thank you for getting the door,”

“You're welcome, General Brewster and I am no longer your caddie,”

General Brewster stopped in his tracks, “I am your wife,” Mrs. Brewster stated, “now do you want to grab a cart to go to the car or walk.”

“I thought so,” Mrs. Brewster continued, “but I am driving.”

And the pair went off into the sunset ready to take on another challenge, together.
