YouTube Music Unveils AI Discovery Tools: Conversational Search and Personalised Podcast Guides

"Ask Music" Lets Users Speak Naturally to Find Songs and Stories "Your Podcast Lineup" Delivers Weekly Curated Recommendations as Platform Ramps Up Intelligent Features

YouTube Music is reimagining how listeners find and connect with audio. At its annual Made on YouTube event, the platform announced two major AI-powered features designed to make discovery more intuitive, personal, and accessible. Ask Music, a conversational search tool, will let users describe what they want to hear in everyday language across a library of more than 300 million tracks. Meanwhile, Your Podcast Lineup will serve up a weekly AI-generated audio guide to help listeners navigate the ever-expanding world of podcasts. Together, these updates signal YouTube’s broader strategy to weave artificial intelligence into the fabric of every listening experience and to compete more aggressively in a rapidly evolving streaming landscape.

Ask Music: Search Like You’re Talking to a Friend

Traditional search, typing a song title, artist name, or album, works well when you know exactly what you’re looking for. It falls short, however, when you have a feeling, a memory, or a question instead of a precise keyword. Ask Music addresses that gap by enabling natural, conversational interaction directly within the YouTube Music app. Users can describe moods, eras, influences, or even technical details about recordings, and the tool will interpret the request and build a listening queue accordingly.

The capability extends far beyond simple matching. A listener might ask for music that inspired a specific track, or request songs sharing a particular bassline style, or inquire about the personnel behind a recording and be directed to relevant music and information in response. It works across the full breadth of YouTube Music’s catalogue: official releases, remixes, live performances, covers, and DJ sets. This depth matters because YouTube hosts versions and interpretations unavailable elsewhere, and Ask Music unlocks that entire universe through plain language rather than advanced search syntax.

The feature builds on YouTube Music’s earlier experimentation with AI-powered hosts first tested in late 2025, which delivered trivia, commentary, and background stories tied to what was playing. Where those hosts added context to what you already chose, Ask Music helps you decide what to choose in the first place.

Your Podcast Lineup: Curated Discovery for an Era of Overabundance

If music faces depth, podcasts face sheer volume tens of thousands of new episodes released daily across every conceivable topic. Even dedicated listeners often find it impossible to stay current with favourite shows, let alone discover new ones aligned with their interests. Your Podcast Lineup tackles this by generating a short, spoken weekly preview directly within the app’s podcast page. It recommends shows and episodes, explains why each might appeal to that specific listener, and transitions seamlessly into playback.

The tool is personal, not generic. It learns from listening habits and suggests accordingly, offering a guided introduction to new content without requiring the user to sift through descriptions or ratings. It is also convenient: the recommendations are delivered as audio, fitting naturally into the same routine as listening to the shows themselves.

This area is increasingly competitive. Spotify recently rolled out its own AI-driven podcast tools, including personal podcasts generated from user prompts and automated Q&A features, positioning intelligent curation as a battleground for listener loyalty. YouTube’s response combining music and podcast discovery in a single unified ecosystem creates a distinct advantage for users who want both in one place.

A Platform-Wide Shift Toward Intelligence

These announcements are not isolated experiments; they are the visible part of a larger transformation. YouTube is embedding AI across its ecosystem from content creation tools to analytics, and now into how audiences find and experience audio. For listeners, the result is a platform that anticipates needs, explains context, and surfaces options that might otherwise remain hidden. For creators, it means their work can be discovered through richer, more varied paths beyond title and tag.

Both features will roll out to YouTube Music and YouTube Premium subscribers worldwide in the near future. Their impact will unfold gradually: as more people use natural language to find music, as more listeners find new voices through their personalised Lineup, and as the system learns from every interaction to refine its suggestions.

Discovery Reimagined

For decades, music streaming has been built on search and browse: type what you know, click what looks interesting. YouTube Music’s new tools represent a shift toward conversation and guidance. Ask Music meets curiosity with flexibility; Your Podcast Lineup meets overwhelm with direction. Together, they promise a listening experience that feels less like navigating a catalogue and more like having a knowledgeable guide, one who knows your tastes, understands your questions, and helps you find what you didn’t even know you were looking for.
