Using a VPN or any other anonymity service is recommended. Using nothing at all to protect yourself is not the ideal way to go. But, if this is you the least you can do is….

This is a routine and if you haven't considered doing this give it a try it definitely won't hurt. Adding these tweaks to your online experience will definitely help and although the title says otherwise consider doing this even if you use a VPN, Tor or any other service. Do your part.

Only visit websites that you know and trust

Imagine yourself in a gun fight with no bulletproof vest on, what are the odds? This of course doesn’t mean all shots would hit you in your chest but this is better than having nothing on you for protection. Don’t visit websites you know nothing about, this will prevent you from falling into a trap because even though some sites may look legit that isn’t always the case some cyber criminals pay attention to details as much as you do.

If You Can’t Tell Who it’s From Don’t Go For It

Suspicious emails are very common the very same usually begin as suspicious links which may be found on suspicious websites.

It’s a matter of what best way to send the links than anything else. If a file is available for download from an unknown source don’t go for it. You may end up getting way more than what you asked for. Your download may be nothing more of a corrupt file that does way more than it should or nothing at all but to harm your system, in other words make your device go nuts.

It may also be the expected file accompanied by a payload that might do its magic as soon as you install or run whatever file you download which may end up giving hackers access to your whole device or the ability to control parts of it.

Don’t Google It

This may sound less dangerous compared to the previous scenarios but it is still effective. Don’t Google it use DuckDuckgo instead. Google keeps track of your searches, and after doing so much you might end up seeing an interesting number of ads. Now, this may not be dangerous but these ads show up and not everyone enjoys these everywhere they go so, if you think that would be annoying to you think about it.

Just Don’t Use The Internet

If you cannot use a single app or service to protect yourself you better off offline until you can afford to. And, this doesn’t have anything to do with money. You can start with the free apps. We have many apps and services that offer anonymity and security that are completely free. The good thing is that even the paid apps have a free trial. That also comes handy, you have a chance to test before commuting. I’m glad we have this as an option.

Online security is not an option but a necessity

You’re safer offline than browsing unprotected. You should make sure you understand that. If you do understand and still feel like this is something you still consider doing then go for it by all means. It’s nothing out of this would but this post shares a few things regarding our online identity as well as how important IP addresses are. In the end it is all a matter of choice. To find out more about the type of things that websites discover about us without doing much check this one out too.

I hope with this you get to make a smarter decision, security online is essential.
