So you want to make Instagram edits.

Getting started editing can be hard all in itself, so why not give yourself a break and make sure you pick the best software out there today. The good thing is that there are a lot of great ones out there to benefit your unique style and you can take your pick of the bunch! But there's also a few dodgy softwares out there you should definitely stay clear off.

Here's the best editing softwares out there for you today.

1. Apple iMovie

Best video editing software for simplicity.

Platform: Mac

Apple iMovie is the best video editing software for creating simple edits while also providing a large amount of special effects and an easy-to-use interface. In addition, it's free, so this is a great place to start if you're interested in trying out video editing. Some of the most emotive and popular edits are the simplest so don't be turned away by this bare bones software, it has more to offer than you may first think.

Version 10.1 of iMovie also added 4K editing and sharing, as well as extended handling to video shot at 1080p and 60 fps.

2. Final Cut Pro X

Arguably the best video editing applications overall for professional/ experienced editors and Mac users.

Platform: Mac

Final Cut Pro X is an excellent software that offers a very professional and rewarding video editing experience. It can be awkward to wrap your head around when you first get started but as you learn and grow as an editor, you'll appreciate the multitude of effects and creative freedom it offers.

Fortunately, Final Cut Pro also comes with a free 90-day trial, so you’ll have time to play around before making any decisions. It does come in a little more expensive than others (if you go the legal route) you also buy it outright instead of paying through a monthly rate, which is ultimately cheaper in the long run.

There’s no shortage of exceptional features, like the Magnetic Timeline or the lengthy range-of-effect options. It’s smart, fast, unique and built for Mac. Final Cut Pro has a lot to offer and is definitely a software that keeps on giving.

3. Adobe Premiere Elements 2020

The best video editing software for price, beginners and capability; Final Cut Pro's biggest competition

Platform: Mac, PC

Adobe Premiere Elements 2020 is easy to use and is full of innovative and brilliant effects and transitions. New features also include 4K support and video stabilisation. The fact it works with both Macs and PCs is also a massive plus.

When it comes to user-friendliness, sophisticated features and ways to output your video, the best video editing software under $100 is the cross-platform Adobe Premiere Elements.

That being said, Adobe only made some minor improvements over the previous year, so if you have a recent version, you may not see the need to upgrade. It still lacks features such as 360-degree video editing, but Adobe's program is the most well-rounded of all the video editing softwares out there today, with something for everybody.

4. KineMaster

Superior video editing software for Android and iOS phones.

Platform: Android, iOS

With surprisingly rich features, this software serves as a solid reminder that phone editing is still alive and well. It's good enough for professionals as well as the everyday editor so don't over look it because its for your phone. Widely used and popular, its biggest let down is how slow it can be on lower-end devices.

It's definitely the best app for Android phones and features a surprisingly diverse range of features, such as multiple layers, packs housing handwriting fonts and text annotations and the simple fact that it's free certainly doesn't ruin its appeal. Give it a try before making a big commitment to the pricier options above.

And there you have it. There's plenty of other options but I think these serve as great representations of the best editing softwares for Instagram edits in 2020. A lot of other softwares may serve your style better but these four are definitely the best to help you find out what that unique style is.

Most also facilitate other forms of edits, eg. Youtube, so make sure you try the free trial and know what you're getting into before picking the editing software for you. Editing can be exceptionally rewarding so don't waste time with dodgy softwares. Good luck!
