The Zuckerberg-Musk fight

By bishop fourPublished 3 years ago • 3 min read

Successful social media entrepreneurs are often admired until recently, but then Musk and Zuckerberg both had huge setbacks on Twitter and Facebook respectively. Their subsequent ventures didn’t fare much better, with an invitation to a cage match and an appendage-measuring competition. These people hold positions of great power, but they’ve definitely had their share of Failures.

In a recent Twitter post, Elon Musk challenged Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg to an appendage-measuring contest. Following a previous tweet from Musk, in which he called Zuckerberg a 'cuck', the challenge was met with positive attention on social media.

Threads, an Instagram-owned platform with a substantial number of users, achieved a striking milestone of 100 million registered users in just five days. This figure accounts for nearly half of Twitter's present user count. Notably, Threads outshines Twitter in terms of both technological superiority and seamless functionality. It owes its success, in part, to the influx of skilled employees who transitioned from Musk's companies to join Zuckerberg's team.

Until one year prior, these were not Zuckerberg's intentions. His company, Meta, had a larger user base across multiple platforms, making the creation of a Twitter replica seem like an unwise investment without substantial profits. Over the years, he displayed no interest in launching something now referred to as the "Twitter killer." Everything shifted when Elon Musk acquired the popular network for a staggering $44 billion and began systematically dismantling what was once a relatively small and unprofitable platform. However, it possessed a knack for being bold and setting trends in politics and society. Zuckerberg recognized an opportunity, recalled his strong dislike for Elon Musk, and decisively took action last week.

The story could have been a legendary account of a fierce conflict between two colossal beings, but in reality, it predominantly represents a chaotic narrative of how two immature and self-centered individuals seized control of a nascent society. They acquired immense authority and sway, all the while deluding themselves into believing their actions were beneficial, when in fact, they were causing destruction.

Elon Musk has consistently experienced a sense of being on the outside in Silicon Valley. Hailing from South Africa, he endured a challenging upbringing, engaging in street brawls and even confronting his father for mistreating his mother. Musk harbored a resentment towards the immense wealth acquired by Zuckerberg thrBitterness built up within Musk until he surpassed Zuckerberg, Bezos, and Gates in wealth, but it never diminished. According to Nick Bilton, author of "Hatching Twitter," who spoke to The New York Post, "Zuckerberg is methodical, affable, and mechanical. He maintains self-control, while Elon is an eccentric who talks about flamethrowers, pulls all-nighters, and speaks his mind. These are two very distinct individuals who are unlikely to get along, even without any business rivalry, and now they have a business animosity. Elon is larger than life, while Zuckerberg is not. They simply do not like each other, and they are currently engaged in a war."ough a single software creation, as he himself ventured to invest his personal fortune into electric vehicles and rockets.

Last month, Elon Musk suggested a showdown with Mark Zuckerberg, to which Zuckerberg promptly replied, "Give me the location." While it may appear comical, the reality of Musk and Zuckerberg's actions is more peculiar than fiction. Musk has already commenced training with mixed martial arts experts, while Zuckerberg is triumphing in Jiu-Jitsu matches. According to Hilton, "Musk shows no signs of calming down with his Twitter antics; instead, he will only escalate them. It's as if he possesses a self-destruct button. If this cage match were to occur, Mark would take it seriously, adopting a rigorous training regimen, consuming raw eggs, and dedicating seven days a week to preparing himself to pummel Elon." One slight consolation amidst the intense rivalry between Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg is that it appears to signal the end of the decade-long idolization of the "tech CEO genius" myth surrounding social media.

What is it saying about silicon valley culture?

How will it end ?
