WASHINGTON, D.C. — A guy claimed a $2.5 million lottery ticket on Dec. 13 at a convenience shop in Tacoma, according to Washington Lottery authorities.

A one percent incentive was given to the retailer where he purchased it.

Garry Gill, the proprietor of Garry's, stated, "He walked in and said, 'I got a $20 note I want to break.'" "We don't open our tills until it's absolutely necessary for security reasons, so guy walks in and says, "Hey, I want to break a $20," and Jeet says, "Sure, here's a ticket." So, the ticket's entire purpose was to shatter a $20 note."

The winner requested anonymity, according to authorities with the Lottery. He's been accused of stealing After playing the "Lotto" game, in which participants pick two sets of numbers and a jackpot starting at $1 million, the reward is paid out in one lump amount. The pot continues to rise until someone wins. To win the jackpot, a player must match all six numbers selected on their ticket.

"A lot of people think the lottery system is making us a lot of money," Gill remarked. "With it, we barely make a living wage, which only covers the rent of the machines, paperwork, and other miscellaneous expenses." It turned out to be fantastic for this one."

The shop will be awarded a $25,000 reward, which Gill hopes to distribute to his employees and spend for community turkey and gift giving.

"We aim to help our community because they helped us," Gill explained. "This is your neighborhood convenience shop, where folks gather to chat. We've had folks coming in 20 minutes simply to speak.

I learnt a lot there, and I met more people there than I did in college or school."

Jeet Singh claimed the prize and said it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

"When he scanned his ticket over there and was in question, he came here to check his ticket," Singh explained. "Can you check it when he comes over?" OK, I'll have a look at it. When I scanned it, it made a noise and a voucher appeared with the words, "Congratulations, you have won the jackpot - $2.5 million." I couldn't believe it. I've worked at convenience stores for seven years, and nothing like that has ever occurred to me."

Gill is excited to hang a banner in their business and hopes that another of their loyal customers will be the lucky recipient.

FOR YOUR EXTRA KNOWLEDGE -

A lottery is a form of gambling that involves the drawing of numbers at random for a prize. Some governments outlaw lotteries, while others endorse it to the extent of organizing a national or state lottery. It is common to find some degree of regulation of lottery by governments. The most common regulation is prohibition of sale to minors, and vendors must be licensed to sell lottery tickets. Although lotteries were common in the United States and some other countries during the 19th century, by the beginning of the 20th century, most forms of gambling, including lotteries and sweepstakes, were illegal in the U.S. and most of Europe as well as many other countries. This remained so until well after World War II. In the 1960s, casinos and lotteries began to re-appear throughout the world as a means for governments to raise revenue without raising taxes.

Lotteries come in many formats. For example, the prize can be a fixed amount of cash or goods. In this format, there is risk to the organizer if insufficient tickets are sold. More commonly, the prize fund will be a fixed percentage of the receipts. A popular form of this is the "50–50" draw, where the organizers promise that the prize will be 50% of the revenue. Many recent lotteries allow purchasers to select the numbers on the lottery ticket, resulting in the possibility of multiple winners
