As early as mid-September 2021, i.e. In a few weeks, Apple will present its latest generation of mobile phones, the iPhone 13, with a total of four models. The question naturally arises: Is it still worth buying a current iPhone 12 or should I wait for the new iPhone 13?

When The iPhone 12 Is Worth It

If your current cell phone broken: If your current iPhone gives up now of all times, be it due to age or due to a fall, then you cannot wait a few more weeks until the iPhone 13 really comes onto the market. In such a case, it pays to use the current iPhone 12, which you can now get cheaper than the RRP at the time, as you can see in the price comparison.

Old iPhone in operation: If you use, for example, an iPhone X, an iPhone 8, or even an iPhone SE of the first generation, then an iPhone 12 is still worth it now. The bigger innovations, like a 120 Hertz display, will only come in the more expensive Pro models.

According to the current status, the iPhone 14 generation in 2022 should offer some features that we would have liked for the iPhone 13, and that is an argument for skipping the iPhone 13. Plus, you can now buy an iPhone 12 for less than an iPhone 13 will cost to launch.

If you have a newer iPhone, such as the iPhone 11, then an iPhone 12 is not worthwhile for you. The improvements over the 11 series are limited and you will continue to receive software updates for a long time. Here you can also confidently wait for the iPhone 13 or 14.

After the iPhone 13 presentation: As already mentioned, the iPhone 12 will still be worthwhile when the iPhone 13 arrives, as the special features are more likely to come in the Pro models, which are a bit more expensive than the Standard models.

The prices are probably based on the recommended prices for the iPhone 12 models. Important to know: If you prefer the iPhone 12 and can be patient a little longer, then it would be best to wait until Apple introduced the iPhone 13.

Because, as the price developments in recent years show, the previous prices drop significantly again immediately after the performance and even further in the weeks after.

Very interesting: The iPhone 11 became more expensive again shortly before Christmas after it became cheaper in October and November (after the iPhone 12 release). We did not notice such a development with the iPhone XS: The price fell continuously and did not increase during the Christmas season.

When The iPhone 13 Is worth It

If you are always looking for the latest functions in an iPhone, you will probably not use the current or previous model shortly before the successor is presented. The iPhone 13 should be improved here and there, but most of the innovations relate to the Pro models.

For example, the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max should have a 120 Hertz display, while the iPhone 13 and 13 Mini will probably continue to work at 60 Hertz. The cameras should also get better, especially in the Pro devices, but the lidar sensor should also be built into the normal iPhones. All cell phones will work with the new Apple chip, which will again promise more performance.

In general, the iPhone 12 already offers many features that the iPhone 13 will bring back with it. This includes the OLED screen in all versions and 5G. The design will also remain very identical, the notch should at least be a little smaller than before. The iPhone 13 will likely receive updates for a year-long since it finally hits the market a year after the iPhone 12. Basically, however, Apple offers a very long update guarantee. So even receive the 2015 released iPhone 6S models iOS 15.

For these reasons, we continue to recommend the iPhone 12 generation, which will be even cheaper after the iPhone 13 launch. If you want the latest features, you will have to grab the iPhone 13 Pro or Pro Max.
